Holmesglen’s Integrated Practical Placement (IPP) program embraces diversity in the workplace and provides a unique opportunity for young people living with a learning or intellectual disability to bridge the gap between studying and finding employment.
Placement delivery model
Unlike other placement programs, the real benefit of this model is in the work placement approach between Holmesglen, and our partner organisations each offering support and guidance to students from placement right through to employment.

Course streams
Sport and recreation stream
Active Monash
Holmesglen has partnered with Monash City Council and Active Monash to deliver a Sport and Recreation stream for the IPP program.
- Students will experience working in locations across the City of Monash – Oakleigh Recreation Centre, Clayton Aquatic and Health Club and Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre. On rotations the student will experiences roles within the Aquatics, Health and Wellbeing department, Customer Experience and Operations teams.
In addition to professional experience, students will gain the following qualifications:
- 22631VIC Certificate II in Work Education
- 22555VIC Certificate I in Adult Literacy and Numeracy
- Lifesaving Victoria Pool Lifeguard Award
- First Aid and CPR certificate
Outcomes
Students will have new skills, qualifications and experience to add to their resume. Active Monash will assist students' search for paid employment in the Sport and Recreation sector. The program is ideal for young people who are motivated to work and learn job specific skills.
Healthcare stream
The Royal Children’s Hospital and The Royal Melbourne Hospital
This program is helping young Victorians living with a disability to grow their career opportunities and gives our students greater skills and knowledge while they study. During the year, our students complete four six-week placements.
The class is deployed across a range of functional areas in the hospital, including human resources, medical records, allied health, volunteer and family services, environmental, kitchen, mailroom and equipment library departments.
In addition to professional experience, students will gain the following qualifications:

- 22555VIC Certificate I in Adult Literacy and Numeracy
- First Aid and CPR certificate
