Overcoming barriers for Employment

Employing and retaining people living with disabilities.

Holmesglen Institute is delighted to announce a brand-new partnership with the City of Monash. The project titled “Expanding Horizons - Overcoming Barriers to Employment”, aims to assist the local business community to increase its confidence in hiring and retaining employees with disability.

With one in six Australians identifying as having disability, the Expanding Horizons project will support businesses with opportunities to champion workplace diversity. By participating in the project, businesses will receive support recruiting staff with disability, with the goal of creating a diverse and inclusive workforce, that benefits employers and employees alike.

The goal of Expanding Horizons is to create ongoing employment opportunities in workplace environments that are respectful, and genuinely inclusive. Research shows these factors play a big role in the wellbeing of employees with disability. Meaningful work opportunities not only foster personal growth, but they also create a more empowering and inclusive quality of life for the individual.

Employing an individual with disability not only benefits the workplace, but it also benefits the community as a whole. Inclusive employment practices enable communities to become more equitable and welcoming, and provide opportunities for others to flourish and contribute their unique talents and perspectives.

In essence, embracing diversity and providing equal employment opportunities for individuals with disability enriches our social fabric and paves the way for a more inclusive and prosperous society

How can we support you?

As a part of Expanding Horizons, Holmesglen is excited to introduce the Readiness and Employment Access Channel (REACH) - a tailored workplace skills enhancement program.

Under the REACH framework, Holmesglen will provide a range of free short courses and workshops tailored for jobseekers, support individuals, and employers. These courses aim to improve their capacity to comprehend, navigate, and leverage the benefits associated with managing, participating in, and supporting an inclusive workforce, all while contributing to the community's overall well-being.
