Diversity and inclusion

What can you expect if you join us?

Holmesglen works hard to make our environment safe and welcoming for everyone. We have a truly diverse workforce.

Through our past diversity and inclusion initiatives, Holmesglen has achieved substantial advancements. We've seen notable enhancements in the diversity of our student and staff populations, as well as improvements in their overall experiences and outcomes.

Gender

At Holmesglen, we deeply appreciate and celebrate the diversity within our community, and we are resolute in our commitment to ensuring that no one faces limitations due to gender stereotypes, traditional gender roles, or biases.

Furthermore, it's important to recognise that gender inequality can intersect with and exacerbate other forms of disadvantage or discrimination, such as those based on Aboriginality, age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, and other attributes (as outlined in Section 6(8) of the Victorian Gender Equality Act 2020).

By actively addressing the barriers created by gendered expectations that perpetuate advantages for some while disadvantaging others, we enhance the overall quality of our learning and working environments, benefiting everyone involved.

LGBTIQA+

Holmesglen is committed to fostering equity and inclusion for all individuals within the LGBTIQA+ community, which encompasses a diverse range of identities, including but not limited to those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, questioning, and asexual.

Veterans employment commitment

Holmesglen recognises the value and unique experience of our veterans and encourages employment opportunities for those who have served our country.

By signing this commitment, Holmesglen has declared to

  • recognise the skills and values veterans can bring to Holmesglen
  • support the employment of veterans, ensuring that veterans have equal opportunities in gaining employment at Holmesglen
  • provide employment opportunities to veterans
  • seek to understand how veterans’ skills and experience can translate into civilian skills and contribute to Holmesglen
  • provide suitable training, mentoring and coaching to veterans to assist their integration into our organisation
  • ensure our policies equitably support the recruitment and retention of all employees, including veterans

Veterans

Those needing additional support

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment for work and learning, which serves several essential purposes:

  • Enhancing Diversity: It broadens the scope of participation, encompassing under-represented groups of students and staff, thus drawing from a more extensive talent pool.
  • Supporting Success: An inclusive and accessible environment promotes greater retention rates and provides the necessary support for success.
  • Upholding Rights: It upholds the fundamental rights of individuals with disabilities, ensuring they are treated fairly and provided equal opportunities.
  • Demonstrating Fairness: Such an environment underscores our commitment to fairness and equal opportunity for all.

We know that disability is not always visible. Disability often arises from the interaction between individuals and their environments. Therefore, Holmesglen is dedicated to removing all barriers, whether attitudinal or cultural, that hinder inclusion, full participation, and progression for all.

Applicants requiring adjustments

At Holmesglen we are committed to supporting adjustments throughout the recruitment and selection process, as well as during employment. We actively support and encourage people with disability to apply to Holmesglen.

We also work with Job Access – Driving Disability Employment to remove the barriers to employment for those requiring the most support in our community.
