Course Overview

The SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management develops advanced skills in hospitality operations, food and beverage service and hospitality management, preparing you to coordinate operations and take on supervisory or management responsibilities across the hospitality industry.<p><p>You'll develop practical skills in managing hospitality operations, supervising staff, making operational business decisions and delivering professional food and beverage service. Learning combines practical and classroom-based training, including hands-on experience in Holmesglen's simulated commercial restaurant.</p><p><p>The course also includes three weeks of practical industry placement, giving you an opportunity to apply your skills in a professional hospitality environment. On completion, you'll be prepared for opportunities across the hospitality industry, including departmental and small business management roles.</p>

Study the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management at Holmesglen's <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/campuses/glen-waverley">Glen Waverley campus</a>, combining classroom learning with practical hospitality training.<p>You'll gain hands-on experience at Zest, Holmesglen's student training restaurant, where you can develop and apply skills in food and beverage service, customer service and hospitality operations in a practical restaurant environment.<p>As you progress through the course, you'll build your understanding of hospitality management, leadership, financial management, cost control, workplace health and safety, conflict management and business relationships, helping prepare you for supervisory and management responsibilities in the hospitality industry.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course, you must be at least 16 years of age. There are no prior experience requirements for entry into this qualification.<p><strong>Literacy, language and numeracy assessment</strong><br>You must complete a BKSB literacy, language and numeracy (LLN) assessment, or provide evidence of an equivalent assessment completed within the past two years. Accepted assessments include:<br>• Core Skills Profile for Adults <br>• Safe Work Resources VFH LLN Assessment Tool <br>• A BKSB assessment completed with another provider within the past two years <p><strong>Pre-Training Review</strong><br>You must complete a Pre-Training Review (PTR) with a Student Recruitment Admissions Officer to assess your suitability for the course. If your suitability cannot be determined, you will be referred to the department's Education Manager for further review.<p><strong>Practical placement requirements</strong><br>Practical placement requirements will be discussed during your Pre-Training Review (PTR) and when you commence the course. Before placement, you'll be provided with information and requirements relating to:<br>• Placement arrangements <br>• Practical Placement Agreement <br>• Your responsibilities under the agreement and Holmesglen's Practical Placement Guidelines <br>• Required evidence, where relevant to the host business, including immunisation records, licences and registrations, Working with Children Check (WWCC), Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), Food Handlers Certificate and National Police Check <br>• Practical Placement Disclosure Statement <br>• Practical Placement Discussion Checklist <p><strong>Mandatory hospitality service</strong><br>The unit SITHIND008 Work effectively in hospitality service (Release 1) requires a minimum of 36 complete service periods, incorporating preparation, service and end-of-service tasks.<p>These service requirements must be demonstrated in either an operational hospitality industry workplace or a simulated industry environment or activity established for assessment purposes.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. To obtain the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management, you must successfully complete 28 units, including 11 core units and 17 elective units.<p>The course is delivered over 3 semesters, with each semester running for 16 weeks. You'll attend face-to-face classes on campus 4 days per week, 5 hours per day.<p>Elective units have been selected in consultation with industry and in accordance with the packaging rules for this qualification.<p><strong>Practical placement</strong><br>You must complete 3 weeks of practical placement in a restaurant or café approved by Holmesglen HCB teaching staff.<br>Placement includes:<br>• 3 weeks of industry placement <br>• 20 hours per week <br>• 60 hours in total
