Studying the Certificate III in Sport and Recreation at Holmesglen

In the first year, you will complete an exciting range of sporting-related units and develop a basic level of skills and knowledge for sport coaching and sport administration in a variety of sports and simulated activity.<p>You will develop knowledge of the sports industry and relevant workplace industry skills. You will learn about the preparation of resources and equipment required to run sport and recreation sessions, how to conduct these sessions, coach participants, provide first aid and how to deal with clients.<p>There will be a wide variety of sports covered that will be tailored to your interests.<p>The second year of the course has a focus on sports coaching, group facilitation and sports programming. You will also develop knowledge of managing risk and safety in sport, and learn how to design, develop and implement a user group education program in a sport and recreation-related area. <p>There will be a large emphasis on the scored assessment simulation as required within the VCAA guidelines.<p>This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students, (previously VETiS) course, and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCE VM program.

Entry Requirements

When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled as a VCE or VCE (VM) student at a Victorian secondary school.<p>Students should also have the physical capacity to be able to successfully work within the field where they may be required to conduct their work typically within fitness centres, sports grounds or facilities, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres, while making sure they are in compliance with all Manual Handling WHS legislation.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you may be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Outcomes

Qualification and Recognition

Completing the SIS30115 Certificate III in Sport and Recreation offers benefits for VCE students. They can earn up to three credits for Units 1 and 2, as well as up to three credits for Units 3 and 4, which includes a Units 3 and 4 sequence. To contribute to their ATAR, students need to undergo a scored assessment. This score can directly impact their ATAR, either as part of the primary four studies or as an additional fifth or sixth study. Opting out of the scored assessment in VCE VET Sport and Recreation means no ATAR contribution. For a study score in this subject, students must complete three coursework tasks (66% of the overall score) and an end-of-year examination (34% of the overall score).
