Studying the Operating Theatre Technician Specialisation at Holmesglen

This Operating Theatre Technician skill set is delivered at the Moorabbin campus and provides comprehensive training to prepare graduates to assist health professionals in an operating theatre.<p>This skill set will prepare learners to perform the following tasks within an operating theatre environment:<br>- positioning and repositioning patients during surgical procedures<br>- preparing and maintaining an operating room and its equipment<br>- assisting the surgical team during procedures<br>- assisting patients in the recovery room<br>- comprehend and adhere to the sterile field in the operating room.<p>All our units are taught by practicing health professionals who are current and have a wealth of experience in the hospital and theatre technician environments.<br>  <br>Your learning will be delivered in a blended environment supported by a range of hands-on practical classes on campus. Blended theory classes are delivered both online and on campus and include tutorials and engaging activities. Practical sessions are conducted in our simulated allied health health services facility, with access to simulated operating theatre and hospital environments.<p>Whether you are enrolled in the 3 unit skill set only or the HLT33115 Certificate III Health Services Assistance Operating Theatre Technician Specialisation, which includes the addition of the 3 unit skill set, at the end of the course, learners will undertake a compulsory two-week industry placement arranged through the Holmesglen Clinical Placement Office. This two-week placement aims to give learners the opportunity to gain valuable industry-specific work experience. This experience is an opportunity to both solidify the training undertaken at Holmesglen as well as improve the learners chances of finding employment upon completion of the course.

Entry Requirements

Entry into HSSHLT0006 Operating Theatre Technician Specialisation is a fee-for-service.<br>Entry into HSSHLT0006 Operating Theatre Technician Specialisation 3 unit skill set requires the following:<p>- Applicants hold the HLT33115 - Certificate III in Health Services Assistance qualification or<br>- Applicants have completed or are concurrently enrolled in the HLT33115 - Certificate III in Health Services Assistance 12 unit Partial Qualification delivered at Holmesglen<p>Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, learners will be required to complete a online literacy and numeracy assessment (LLN test) and a pre-training interview.<p>At the face-to-face pre-training interview, learners will be asked a number of questions including some contextualised questions regarding the course. The LLN test results, in conjunction with the interview, assists with determining the prospective learners suitability for the course and to identify any learning support needs.<p>Prior to undertaking mandatory clinical placement, learners will need to provide their health and immunisation status, complete a National Police Records Check and hold a valid Working with Children Check for employees. In order for this to occur, it is required that learners have reached the minimum age of 18 years old at course commencement.<p>Throughout the course, it is highly recommended for learners to have access to a device, such as a computer, laptop, or iPad, along with a headset. This will enhance their participation in class activities and facilitate engagement in blended online learning.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability for the course and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Outcomes

Qualification and Recognition

There is no qualification recognition for HSSHLT0006 Operating Theatre Technician Specialisation- 3 unit skill set. If a learner is enrolled in the 3 unit skill set only as they already hold the HLT33115 Certificate III in health services assisatnace, learners will receive a statement of attainment for the three units upon successful completion of the course. However, If a learner is enrolled in Holmesglen's HLT33115 Certificate III Health Services Assistance the 12 unit partial completion and the HSSHLT0006 Operating Theatre Technician Specialisation - 3 unit skill set, they will qualify and be issued a certificate for HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance Specialising Operating Theatre Technician certificate.
