Studying the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance at Holmesglen

Allied health assistants often work across health disciplines to assist multiple Allied Health professionals and may, in some cases, specialise in one discipline area (such as physiotherapy assistance).<p>This course is delivered at Holmesglen's Moorabbin campus and will provide students with comprehensive training in the speciality streams of physiotherapy and occupational therapy, as well as information about other areas, including group work and community rehabilitation.<p>All our clinical specialist units are taught by allied health assistants who maintain their industry currency. Learning will be supported through a range of online activities, lectures and tutorials. <p>Practical sessions are conducted in our state-of-the-art allied health facility, with simulated hospital rehabilitation and community environments. Training is further enhanced with access to virtual reality learning opportunities and the Holmesglen state of the art Simulation Centre, providing students with real life scenarios in preparation for entry into the workplace.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the program, students must be at least 18 years old at the program's commencement. Prior to clinical placement, learners need to provide the Holmesglen clinical placement office with evidence of up-to-date immunisations, a valid working with children's check, and a valid national police check. These requirements are mandatory for clinical placement and course completion. Additionally, before clinical placement, students must present a valid HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate. A 120-hour compulsory practical placement component is scheduled at the end of the course.<p>Learners must have the physical capacity to work effectively in allied health settings, adhering to manual handling and WHS policies. Physical capabilities include mobility, standing, walking, bending, and manual dexterity for tasks like transfers. Strength is needed for lifting and assisting with mobility. Pre-enrolment assessments determine support needs for learning skills, disability, well-being, and other services.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. <strong>Timetable</strong><p>Classes run for 2.5 days a week, group A attending for 6 hours a day on Monday and Tuesday, 3 hours on a Wednesday and Group B attending 6 hours a day on a Thursday and Friday and 3 hours on a Wednesday.<p>To receive this qualification, you must complete 18 units in total, comprising of 10 core units and 8 elective units.
