Studying the Diploma of Hospitality Management at Holmesglen

The Diploma of Hospitality Management is tailored towards learners who wish to complete a concurrent Diploma of Hospitality Management and Diploma of Golf Management (10810NAT). The Diploma of Golf Management is delivered by the PGA International Golf Institute. Learners enrol with Holmesglen for the Diploma of Hospitality Management and can enrol with the PGA International Golf Institute to complete the Diploma of Golf Management after successful completion of the Diploma of Hospitality Management semester 1 units.<p>Learners undertake the full-time Diploma of Hospitality Management (Golf Management Stream) over 3 semesters, 4 days per week, and 5 hours per day on campus for face-to-face delivery. Lessons are a mixture of practical and theoretical, and units are contextualised to include assessments and content based on the Australian golf industry. Face-to-face workshops, lectorials, demonstrations, practical tasks, group work, and role plays are used to support learning content and reading material. Guest speakers are used to demonstrate current industry practices and trends and support theoretical concepts.<p>This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of the industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others, and make a range of operational business decisions. This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector as a departmental or small business manager.

Entry Requirements

Learners must be 18 years old at the commencement of the course.<p>Learners will be required to complete 3 weeks of practical placement in the food and beverage department of a golf course that is approved by the HCB Teaching Staff. During this 3-week period, learners will complete 20 hours per week of services totalling 60 hours. Learners will be informed of the Practical Placement component of this course during their PTR interview.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. This will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

The SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management comprises 28 units, with 11 core units and 17 elective units. The elective was chosen based on consultation with the PGA International Golf Institute and in accordance with the packaging rules for this qualification.<p>The program is delivered over three semesters, each lasting 16 weeks, with classes held four days a week and five hours per day on campus for face-to-face delivery. This course combines practical and classroom-based learning, is conducted in Holmesglen's simulated commercial restaurant, and includes three weeks of practical placement.<p>Learners are required to complete three weeks of practical placement in the food and beverage department of a golf course approved by the HCB Teaching Staff. During this period, learners will dedicate 20 hours per week to services, totalling 60 hours.
