Holmesglen Vocational College offers a 2-year VCE VM program for 16-18-year-olds, focused on developing employability skills in a supportive, hands-on vocational setting. Studying the VCE - Victorian Certificate of Education at Holmesglen

Holmesglen’s VCE VM program offers students a practical, hands-on approach to learning in literacy, numeracy, personal development, and work-related skills. With access to specialised VET facilities, students gain valuable experience through various VET skill sets, equipping them for real-world opportunities and career pathways.<p><strong>Year 11 VCE VM Units:</strong><p>• Literacy: LT031, LT032<br>• Numeracy: NM031, NM032<br>• Personal Development Skills: PD031, PD032<br>• Work Related Skills: WR031, WR032<br>• 2 VET credits at Certificate II level or above (minimum 180 nominal hours)<p><strong>Year 12 VCE VM Units:</strong><p>• Literacy: LT033, LT034<br>• Numeracy: NM033, NM034<br>• Personal Development Skills: PD033, PD034<br>• Work Related Skills: WR033, WR034<br>• 2 VET credits at Certificate II level or above (minimum 180 nominal hours)<p><strong>VCE VM Completion Requirements:</strong> To qualify for the VCE VM, students must complete at least 16 units, including:<p>• 3 VCE VM Literacy units<br>• 2 VCE VM numeracy units<br>• 2 VCE VM Work Related Skills units<br>• 2 VCE VM Personal Development Skills units<br>• 2 VET credits at Certificate II level or above (minimum 180 nominal hours)<p><strong>Additional Requirement: </strong><br>At least four of the units must be "Unit 3–4 sequences," including literacy.<p><strong>VET Credits: </strong>Holmesglen offers access to specialised VET facilities. Each VET Skill Set consists of around 90 hours of competency-based training at Certificate II or III level. Students complete a minimum of two different VET skill sets each year.<p><strong>Available VET skill sets:</strong><br>• Active Volunteering<br>• Beauty<br>• Bricklaying<br>• Carpentry<br>• Engineering<br>• Events<br>• Hospitality<br>• Tiling<br>• Sport Coaching<br>• Small Business<p>Students are encouraged to have a part-time or casual job or complete structured workplace learning one day per week to enhance their work skills, maximising their experience and skill set.

Entry Requirements

• Students must be 16 years of age by the 30th of April to be eligible for enrolment.<br>• Students under the age of 17 must have a completed Exemption form School form, authorised by the student's previous school principal. This is a requirement under Ministerial Order 705. Permission may also be required under this same act, from the Department of Education's regional director.<br>• Preferred candidates will have completed either year 10 or VPC, prior to acceptance into VCE VM at Holmesglen.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Timetable

• Classes are delivered over 4 days per week. <br>• 3 days of core units: 9am to 2.30pm.<br>• Plus 1 day of a VET elective: 9am to 3pm.<p><strong>Duration:</strong><p>• Year 11 only: Full-Time for 10 months<br>• Year 12 only: Full-Time for 10 months<br>• Year 11 and 12: Full-Time for 2 years<p>Core Units: The core units are delivered over 2 years (Units 1 and 2 in Year 11; Units 3 and 4 in Year 12).<p>Elective Units: Each Semester, you'll select from the list of available 'elective units', based on your chosen field of study.

The course fees listed below are per annum. For example, if you plan to complete both Year 11 and Year 12, the total fees will be double the listed amount. If you only intend to study Year 11 or Year 12, the fees will remain as listed.

The General Services Fee (GSF) at Holmesglen is a mandatory annual fee applicable to all students enrolled in Certificate I through Advanced Diploma courses. This fee supports various student services such as counselling, welfare support, and learning assistance provided by our dedicated student support and wellbeing teams. Additional Course Cost

Some VET Skill Sets (electives) require material/activity fees in addition to the above costs (e.g. coaching certificate, tool kit, uniform). These fees are listed below: <br>Construction Induction Card- building and construction Vet Skill Set students only - $100pp <br>Hospitality - Rental of Chef's Uniform $100pp <br>Beauty - Beauty kit $365.13 <br>Sports Coaching - $100 <br>Small Business-$50.00 <br>Active volunteering and Tour Guiding - $50.00 <br>Tiling, Bricklaying, Engineering and Carpentry - $50.00 <br> <br>The Building and Construction industry streams (electives including Carpentry, Bricklaying, Tiling, Engineering, and Welding) require personal protective equipment to be supplied by the student (not charged by Holmesglen, instead required for the learner to source and purchase prior to commencement). These building students can access a copy of the below list of equipment and ask for advice as to where to purchcase the items: <br>Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) Safety pants <br>Work shirt (waist length jacket, if cold) Safety glasses <br>Ear protection AS1270 (Earmuffs) <br>The total cost of these personal protective equipment list above is approximately $200 - $250. <br>*If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.
