Studying the VCE - Victorian Certificate of Education at Holmesglen

Entry Requirements

Learners must be 16 years of age at the 30th of April to be eligible for enrolment <p>Learners under the age of 17 must have a completed Exemption form School form, authorised by the learner's previous school principal. This is a requirement under the Ministerial Order 705. Permission may also be required under this same act, to receive permission from the Department of Education's regional director (the learner's previous school seeks this permission, when relevant).
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

The Trades Academy VCE VM program is delivered over 5 days per week. All classes will be held at the Chadstone Campus.<br>Two days per week (Thursday and Friday) consists of VET classes and are usually conducted from 9am until 3pm.<br>The remaining 3 days per week are allocated for learners to complete the VCE VM core units; these classes are usually conducted from 9am until 2.50pm.<p><strong>During Year 11, learners are enrolled into the following:<br>VCE VM units:</strong><br>• LT031 Literacy<br>• LT032 Literacy<br>• NM031 Numeracy<br>• NM032 Numeracy<br>• PD031 Personal Development Skills<br>• PD032 Personal Development Skills<br>• WR031 Work Related Skills<br>• WR032 Work Related Skills<br> <br><a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/explore-courses/english-education-and-teacher-training/vce/vocational-education/certificate-ii-in-construction-pathways-trades-academy" target="_blank">Certificate II in Construction Pathways Trades Academy:</a> <br>Enrolled through the Trades department.<br>This will enable learners to obtain 2 VET credits at Certificate II level or above (consisting of a minimum total of 180 nominal hours).<p><strong>During Year 12, learners are enrolled into the following:<br>VCE VM units:</strong><br>• LT033 Literacy<br>• LT034 Literacy<br>• NM033 Numeracy<br>• NM034 Numeracy<br>• PD033 Personal Development Skills<br>• PD034 Personal Development Skills<br>• WR033 Work Related Skills<br>• WR034 Work Related Skills<p><strong>Notes:</strong><br>To be eligible to graduate the VCE VM, learners must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 16 units from those listed above.<br>11 of those 16 units, must be :<br>• 3 VCE VM Literacy units<br>• 2 VCE VM Numeracy units<br>• 2 VCE VM Work Related Skills units<br>• 2 VCE VM Personal Development Skills units, and<br>• 2 VET credits at Certificate II level or above (180 nominal hours)<p>Within the units above there must also be four "Unit 3–4 sequences”, including Literacy.<p>Overall, in your first year, you’ll complete the Certificate II in Construction Pathways, and, the Full VCE-VM. Then in your second year, you’ll choose one of either of these three: Focused Pre-Apprenticeship, Traineeship, or move into a full Apprenticeship. These options will be discussed with you by the department.

Qualification and Recognition

On completion, you will receive Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM) and a Certificate II in Building and construction and either an additional Trade pre apprenticeship or SBAT

Additional Course Cost

$300 activity fee per year for all learners ($150 per semester - excursions, activity costs and learner consumables) <br> <br>There are additional fees for the construction component of the course, please refer to the department for specific costs.
