The Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems Designer and Installer Skill Set is the pathway for licensed electricians to become accredited designers and installers. The course delivers you the knowledge and skills to design and install quality grid connected PV systems. It is your first step into a rewarding solar career and is the beginning of your training pathway into battery storage and off-grid courses.

Studying the Grid-connected Photovoltaic Systems Designer-Installer Skill Set at Holmesglen

Training is delivered at Holmesglen’s Renewable Energy Training Centre at our Moorabbin campus. The facility includes the installation of new solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations to give learners hands-on experience using premium equipment and technologies and experience with commercial systems.<p>Note: Learners who already hold competencies in the skill set can apply for credit transfer towards the skill set qualification.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.<p>Learners must be qualified Electricians or hold an 'Unrestricted Electrician's Licence' or equivalent, issued in an Australian State or Territory to undertake this program.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
Holmesglen requires learners to have vocational experience as an A-Grade Electrician working in the Industry

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

The course has a duration of 10 weeks, consisting of online self-study along with 5 days on-campus for the Renewable Energy (RE) design and installation component, and an additional 2 days focusing on safe work practices in rooftop solar and working safely at heights.<p>The course begins with a focus on Working Safely at Heights, followed by the essential competencies for achieving grid-connected PV accreditation, and concludes with practices for safe work within the rooftop solar industry.<p>The online segment covers all the theoretical knowledge and assessments necessary for designing and installing grid-connected PV systems. Successful completion of mandatory online coursework is required before attending related practical workshop sessions.<p>Practical Workshops:<br>Solar workshops will take place at our purpose-built Holmesglen Renewable Energy Training Centre of Excellence on our Moorabbin campus. Work Safely at Heights training will be conducted at our Drummond St, Chadstone campus.<p>Attendance at these practical workshops is mandatory. They will include a comprehensive review of online content to ensure a thorough understanding of design, theoretical knowledge, and practical requirements for the course, including grid-connected PV system installation and assessment.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Outcomes

Qualification and Recognition

On successful completion, learners who complete/hold all units of competency in the Skill Set will be issued with UEESS00194 Grid-connected photovoltaic system designer-installer skill set qualification. Learners who have completed individual units of competency but not the full skill set will receive a Statement of Attainment for units of competency completed in the program.

The required personal protective equipment students will need to supply is: Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) Safety pants <br>Work shirt (waist length jacket, if cold) Safety glasses <br>Total costs depending on brands for the above items is approximately $200 - $250.
