Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 22 years old and have worked in the industry for at least 2 years.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Students will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking practical activities and attending site visits. The personal protective equipment and course materials students will be required to supply are: <br>Safety boots Safety pants <br>Work shirt (no singlets) Safety glasses <br>Safety gloves (when handling building materials) Claw hammer 24oz or 20oz (similar to Estwing) 1m folding ruler <br>Retractable Steel Tape (Metric 8m) Nail bag (dual pouch) <br>Chisel high impact Thru Tang - set of 3 (2mm, 19mm, 25mm) or set of 5 (6mm, 12mm, 19mm, 25mm, 32mm) 8m tape (mm) Combination square Bevel <br>Carpenter pencil x 3 <br>Hand saw (Irwin Jack 770 or Bahco Prize Cut) Set of three nail punches <br>Hat and sunscreen for sun protection Notebook, HB Pencil, blue or black pen, eraser <br>The total cost of these items is between $400 - $500 <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.
