Studying the Certificate II in Construction Pathways at Holmesglen

You'll learn the best work, health and safety practices, how to correctly use tools, and learn about the materials you will be working with.<p>You will understand the job, and what is required of you and learn to effectively communicate with your workmates.<p>This qualification’s core units will meet the requirements, and provide credits toward most Certificate III qualifications - apprenticeship courses - in the building and construction trades.<p>You’ll gain an understanding of building skills and principles and be exposed to common scenarios you’ll experience on the job.<p>Our teachers are industry experts that have worked in the field. Here at Holmesglen, we structure our courses to use our real-world working environments so you're well prepared to enter into an apprenticeship and begin your trade.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability for the course and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Timetable

3 days 8.15am - 3.45pm for 12 weeks – Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.<p>The duration of the program is 12 weeks and learners must demonstrate competency in 10 units of competency:<br>5 Core units<br>5 Elective units

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

The General Services Fee (GSF) at Holmesglen is a mandatory annual fee applicable to all students enrolled in Certificate I through Advanced Diploma courses. This fee supports various student services such as counselling, welfare support, and learning assistance provided by our dedicated student support and wellbeing teams. Additional Course Cost

Students will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking practical activities and attending site visits. The personal protective equipment and course materials students will be required to supply are: <br>Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) Safety pants <br>Work shirt Safety glasses <br>Ear protection AS1270 (Earmuffs) Hat for sun protection <br>Sunscreen (if exposed to sunlight) <br>Safety Gloves (if handling building materials) Fold out ruler, Notebook, HB Pencil, Biro, eraser <br>BYO Device-Laptop $400 <br>The total cost of these items is between $650 - $750 <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.

All fees are indicative only. Your fees will be calculated on your individual circumstances at the time of enrolment.
