The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) CPC50220 is online and flexible to equip you with the skills to manage and coordinate construction projects, including the qualification required for your builders’ licence registration or to manage construction projects. Delivered remotely, it includes online facilitation sessions and some on-campus workshops and assessments. This qualification can assist in meeting the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) requirements for becoming a registered building practitioner.

Entry Requirements

It's recommended that candidates are at least 18 years old and have completed Year 12. Additionally, having a strong interest in the building and construction industry and possessing adequate literacy and numeracy skills is important. Developed skills in Microsoft Word and Excel are an advantage.<p>Prospective learners must meet the following criteria:<br>• Engage with an Education Manager for a Pre-Training Review (PTR) before enrolment to assess suitability for the online course.<br>• Have a minimum of 3 years of related building and construction experience within the past 5 years, with exposure to on-site activities. <br>Construction experience may include, but is not limited to:<br>o Carpenter<br>o Plumber<br>o Electrician<br>o Estimator (Take-offs and Bill of Quantities Specialist)<br>o Planner/Scheduler (Construction)<br>o Contract Administrator<br>o Project Coordinator<br>o Engineer<br>o Architect/Draftsperson<br>o Building Inspector/Surveyor
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.<p>Please note: Students are required to hold a <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/explore-courses/business-and-finance/work-health-and-safety/vocational-education/prepare-to-work-safely-in-the-construction-industry-white-card">Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)</a> (CPCCWHS1001A Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry) in order to take part in mandatory assessments or site-visits.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

To receive this qualification, you must complete 27 units in total, comprising of 24 core units and 3 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications. <p>All learning materials and assessments are available upon enrolment into each unit. The course can take up to 4 years to complete but can be completed in approximately 18 months.<p>Enrolment in the online program has been grouped into twelve (12) Blocks where each block can take up to 17 weeks to complete. You may also finish each block in a quicker amount of time. Enrolments in blocks are open four (4) times per year, in February, April, July and October.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards. Assessments can range from knowledge quizzes, project-based tasks, role-play activities, observable practical tasks and on-campus simulated construction activities.

Office365 is available for free. Microsoft Project will be available on the classroom computers.
