Study at Holmesglen provides a practical, hands-on learning experience with great, supportive teachers who are dedicated to your success. In this course, you'll explore hard materials and soft furnishing textiles while working on real client design briefs. You’ll gain expertise in using colour, fabrics, design history, and industry-standard tools like CAD and Adobe software to bring your ideas to life.<p>Throughout the course, you’ll develop essential skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and in-depth product knowledge. You'll learn how to propose colour schemes that work with existing lighting and interpret client needs. The course emphasises planning, organisation, and safety in a supportive environment. By the end, you’ll have an impressive portfolio to showcase your work to potential employers and clients.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 17 years of age and<br>Holmesglen requires that applicants attend a pre-training review to determine their suitability for the program.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will also be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

To receive this qualification, you must complete 17 units in total, comprising of 7 core units and 10 elective units.<p>Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.<p>Full-time study program is delivered in 2 semesters. Each semester comprises of 17 weeks of delivery. An average weekly attendance is 20 hours per week over 3–5 days per week. Learners complete approximately 50% of the program in each semester, starting with foundation design skills in their first semester and progressing to more challenging skills and more complex briefs in their second semester.
