Graduates Ambrey Sparks and Isabella Scavo studied the SHB30121 Certificate III in Beauty Services  at Holmesglen and learned the practical and customer service skills needed to work in jobs that can include a beautician and beauty therapist.

“I had studied a make-up course previously and wanted to branch out and create more career opportunities,” says Isabella, pictured right.

“I’ve always been interested in beauty and my family and friends encouraged me to explore it further,” adds Ambrey (left).

Ambrey and Isabella both credit their qualification for helping them gain work in the industry and say their jobs reflect the skills they learned in the classroom.

Beauticians and beauty therapists need a variety of skills to work confidently and safely in industry.

The Certificate in Beauty Services teaches students a range of technical and soft skills and prepares them to transition into employment.

At Holmesglen, beauty services students learn how to do:

• nail and beauty services
• lash, brow and waxing services
• client service
• safe and hygiene work practices
• salon financial transactions.

“During the course, I learned how to use the right techniques; as well as how to interact with a customer or client, and how to do things safely and correctly,” says Ambrey.

“The course helps you expand in beauty services. Now I can do waxing, nails, tanning,” says Isabella.

Beauticians undertake various roles in work settings that include beauty, waxing, brow and nail salons.

Ambrey currently does eyebrow, lip and chin waxing at a local salon, while Isabella completes lash tinting and waxing, facial waxing and full body waxing for her clients at a similar beauty services business.

“Everything that I learned during my course; I’ve been able to put into my real-life work,” says Isabella.

Beauticians also provide dedicated customer service during appointments, helping their clients to feel comfortable.

“I like helping people feel better within themselves,” says Ambrey.

The SHB30121 Certificate III in Beauty Services is the foundation qualification needed to work as a beautician or beauty therapist.

The course is offered as a full-time, six-month program at our Glen Waverley campus, with intakes in February and July.
