Studying the Certificate IV in Fitness at Holmesglen
The course will teach you how to use a diverse range of personal training equipment, operate in different environments (indoors and out), and design programs for one-on-one, group and functional training clients.
Personal trainers work in a variety of settings and are largely responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of exercise programs with individual clients or small groups.
You'll learn the importance of nutrition, client adherence and how to manage prescribe exercise for clients with specific medical conditions/concerns..
This program has compulsory activities/materials as part of the learning experience. The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to your enrolment.
Course structure
Timetable: 3 days per week. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays: 9am to 4pm
Classes are both practical and theoretical in nature, combining on-campus face-to-face lessons, and online classes you can attend off campus.
Most theory components are delivered through our online learning management system as pre-recorded lessons, activities, reading and video resources to develop your knowledge in preparation for the practical components which are delivered on campus in a simulated gym.
To receive this qualification you must complete 20 units, which comprise of 12 core units and 8 elective units.

Assessment
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
Entry requirements
Entry to this course is open to people who hold a current first aid and CPR certificate (HLTAID003), and have been recognised as competent through a recognised training course or recognition process against the following units of competency:

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Qualification and recognition
On completion, you will attain the SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness and be able to register with either Fitness Australia or Physical Activity Australia as a fitness instructor (gym) and personal trainer.

With many Australians living longer than ever before, and an increase in conditions such as diabetes and obesity, there's a growing need for health and fitness services.
This course will give you the specialist skills to improve clients' health-related fitness in relatively low-risk situations. It also covers the fundamentals of marketing and operating a small fitness business successfully.
After graduating with the SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness, you will be able to register with either Fitness Australia or Physical Activity Australia as a fitness instructor (gym) and personal trainer.
