Overview
Holmesglen's Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM) is a three-year degree for those aspiring to a career in hospitality management. The course provides operational and higher-level management skills, contextualised for hospitality.
Career opportunities, include:

- self employed in restaurants, cafes and catering operations

Studying the Bachelor of Hospitality Management at Holmesglen
Students are challenged to collaborate and integrate technology, producing graduates who are confident in today's dynamic workplace. Students have the opportunity to put their learning into practice through extensive industry engagement in the final year of study.
The range of options open to our graduates is enormous, from positions in major hotels, resorts, commercial catering operations, to restaurants and events management organisations. There are also abundant opportunities for graduates to establish their own businesses.

Work placements/Internships
The one prescribed elective in the final year of study involves a minimum 80-hour work-based placement. Students can apply for an internship as a double credit-point prescribed elective in the final semester of study.

Assessment
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Entry requirements
To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.
Admission requirements for all applicants
Supplementary Application Form
The Supplementary Application Form is used to identify entry options into the Bachelor of Hospitality Management. Applicants have the opportunity to include information about previous studies and work experience.
For applicants with no prior hospitality industry or educational experience, the form will be used as the sole basis of information (along with ATAR if relevant), with a follow-up interview generally not required. However, if an applicant would like the opportunity to be interviewed, a request can be made through the contact details included on the Supplementary Application form.
Interview
Based on a review of the supplementary application form, some applicants will be asked to attend an interview with a representative of the BHM team.
This is to verify information in the supplementary application form, such as prior work and educational experience. Applicants will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the course structure and how it might apply to them. Discussion at the interview will cover placement opportunities and specific areas of the hospitality industry the applicant is looking to pursue.
Applicants should bring along academic transcripts. They are also welcome to bring a support person. Requests can be made for a teleconference for any applicants unable to attend in person.
Applicants will be contacted by Holmesglen to organise a suitable interview time. Interview details will be confirmed by mail or email and are generally conducted within two weeks of receiving the supplementary application form.
Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)
ATAR - This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.
Applicants who wish their professional or community experience to be considered are required to complete a Bachelor of Hospitality Management supplementary application form and submit by email.
Based on a review of the supplementary form, some applicants may also be required to attend an interview.

Advanced Standing
Graduates of the Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management can receive advanced standing of up to 48 or 72 credit points respectively.
Articulation pathways are available from other related diplomas and advanced diplomas, such as Tourism, Events and/or Business.
Advanced standing
You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Read more about gaining advanced standing and credits.
Outcomes
Qualification and recognition
On completion, you will receive the Bachelor of Hospitality Management.
Connections with industry
All BHM academic staff have extensive industry experience and higher education teaching experience. The facilities used by students include the Zest training restaurant, coffee-making and kitchen facilities, the Holmesglen at Eildon campus for conference and student recreation facilities, as well as off-site visits to hospitality and tourism venues and businesses within Melbourne and regional Victoria.

*Students are required to pay a compulsory Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). This fee contributes to the cost of providing student support services including counselling, welfare services, learning support and other activities provided by the student support and wellbeing teams. For 2023, the SSAF fee is $326 for 12 months. This fee is charged per semester at $163 per semester. All local higher education students are required to pay this fee at the time of enrolment, regardless of study mode. Part time students are charged 75% of this amount. These may include consumables such as learning resources, personal protective equipment/clothing and other costs such as immunisation costs, National Police Check and Working with Children Check for relevant courses. Tuition assurance requirements
Under the Higher Education Support Act 2003, Holmesglen Institute must meet tuition assurance requirements for persons, other than overseas students, who are enrolled in the higher education courses we offer in the event we cease to provide a course of study in which a student is enrolled.
