Course Overview

The ICT50220 Diploma of Information Technology (Front End Web Development) with Diploma of Information Technology (Back End Web Development) develops practical skills across front-end, back-end and full-stack web development. You'll learn to create responsive user interfaces, build server-side functionality, work with databases and APIs, and develop complete web applications using technologies including JavaScript, React, Node.js, Next.js, GraphQL and GitHub.<p><p>You'll also explore AI-assisted development for tasks such as ideation, code explanation, debugging, documentation and testing, while developing and demonstrating your own technical skills. Through practical projects, including a live client project, you'll build a professional portfolio demonstrating your web development, communication and teamwork skills. The course offers mixed delivery, with classes available on campus or live online via Webex.</p>

Studying the Diploma of Information Technology (Front End Web Development) at Holmesglen

Study the ICT50220 Diploma of Information Technology (Front End Web Development) with Diploma of Information Technology (Back End Web Development) in a collaborative environment that reflects how contemporary web development projects are delivered.<p>A key part of your Holmesglen experience is the opportunity to work on a live client or community project, where you'll collaborate on requirements, develop solutions, respond to feedback and present your work. Your projects contribute to a professional portfolio that demonstrates your development and problem-solving skills.<p>Weekly open lab sessions provide additional opportunities to work on projects and assessments, troubleshoot technical challenges and receive individual support from experienced Holmesglen teachers.<p>Classes can be attended on campus or live online, with recorded learning resources available through Brightspace for revision.<p>Please note: International students are required to attend all classes on campus.

Entry Requirements

1. Good passes at Year 11 or the overseas equivalent. <p>2.Attainment of the ICT40315 Certificate IV in Web-Based Technologies or ICT40120 Certificate IV in Information Technology (Web Development).<p>2. English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Students must be at least 18 at the commencement of the course.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. The course uses mixed delivery, with classes available on campus or live online via Webex. Sessions are recorded and available through Brightspace.<p>Please note: International students are required to attend classes on campus.<p>The course is structured around eight subjects, progressing from front-end and UX development through to APIs, server-side programming, full-stack development and a final capstone project.<br><strong>Subjects</strong><br>• React – JavaScript, React.js and interactive user interfaces. <br>• UX Design and Development – UX, accessibility, responsive design and portfolio development. <br>• Workskills – Professional ICT practices, responsible AI use, privacy, cyber security and teamwork. <br>• API Design – RESTful APIs, databases and data-driven applications. <br>• Information Architecture – Content structure, UX principles and scalable web applications. <br>• Server-Side Web Programming – Authentication, data handling and server-side functionality. <br>• Fullstack Development – Front-end and back-end development for complete web applications. <br>• Capstone Project – A live client or community project using Agile practices and contributing to your professional portfolio. <br><strong>AI-assisted development</strong><br>AI-assisted development is integrated throughout the course, using tools such as ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and GitHub Copilot to support ideation, debugging, documentation and testing.
