This course provides a strong foundation in front-end and back-end web development, giving you the practical skills to confidently use AI-assisted development tools while building real websites and web applications.<p>Learn from experienced teachers who combine industry knowledge with practical, hands-on learning. Study in modern computer laboratories using industry-standard software and AI development tools, while receiving personalised support throughout your studies.<p>Choose to attend classes on campus or join live remotely via WebEx, with every lesson recorded on Brightspace so you can review content whenever you need. Weekly Open Lab sessions provide additional teacher-supported learning, giving you the opportunity to build personal projects, experiment with AI web development tools and receive one-on-one feedback outside scheduled classes.<p>Throughout the semester, you'll also have opportunities to participate in Hackathons and TechTalk sessions with industry professionals, helping you strengthen your technical, collaboration and problem-solving skills while building a professional portfolio.<p><strong>What You'll Study</strong><p>• <strong>HTML & CSS (Weeks 1–9)</strong> – Build accessible, W3C-compliant websites using HTML5 and CSS3 in Visual Studio Code and Cursor. Learn the structural and visual foundations that underpin modern website development.<p>• <strong>JavaScript (Weeks 1–18)</strong> – Develop interactive websites, connect to APIs, build user interfaces with Bootstrap and explore AI-assisted development tools through practical coding projects.<p>• <strong>Dynamic Web Development (Weeks 1–18)</strong> – Learn server-side development using PHP, SQL databases and WordPress. Build dynamic websites and deploy live web applications using industry-standard development practices.<p>• <strong>Emerging ICT Technologies (Weeks 1–15)</strong> – Explore Figma, AI-assisted design tools and emerging web technologies while evaluating modern development practices for real business requirements.<p>• <strong>Working in ICT (Weeks 1–15)</strong> – Develop professional knowledge of AI-assisted development, cyber security, privacy, ethics, intellectual property and teamwork within modern digital workplaces.<p>• <strong>Front End Design & Development (Weeks 10–18)</strong> – Design responsive websites with strong UI and UX, implement technical SEO best practices and prepare websites for modern search engines, AI Overviews and generative search experiences.<p>• <strong>Open Lab (Weeks 1–18)</strong> – Attend optional teacher-supported sessions to experiment with AI web development tools, build personal projects and receive one-on-one feedback beyond assessed coursework.
You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
