Studying the Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) at Holmesglen

Holmesglen building design students have won more industry awards in the past 10 years than all the institutes combined that teach the Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural).<p>Through this course, you will acquire the professional skills and knowledge required for sustainable design, drafting and documentation of residential, industrial and commercial buildings.<p>Emphasis is on the design process, construction technology, integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM), presentation and production of working drawings, using industry standards and the latest architectural software and virtual experiences.<p>You will have access to design studios with high-level computer labs, the latest technology, including industrial 3D Printers, Virtual and Mixed Reality.<p>Architectural Building Design elements will be incorporated in project-based learning; you will have opportunities to develop a variety of skills, including technical and research skills in an environment of self-paced learning, which may include study tours and site visits.

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that you are at least 18 years old and have finished year 12, or a mature learner, completing year 11 or its equivalent and having a passion for the architectural building design industry.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

Daytime classes are held between 9am and 5.30pm, however not all classes are strictly at these times - i.e. they may be 1pm - 4pm, etc.<br>Night time classes are 6pm - 10pm.<p>Full-time students typically attend daytime classes over 3.5 days. However, if required, some daytime classes can be replaced with evening classes.<p>Part-time students typically attend two evenings per week. It would take 4 years to complete the course with this pattern of study.<p>Part-time students can attend 1, 2 or 3 nights, which would shorten or lengthen the duration of their study. If required, instead of evening classes, part-time students can attend during the day.<p>Remote delivery: when required by circumstances, face-to-face classes can be live streamed via the Webex platform through timetabled sessions.

Student licences are available free of charge for Microsoft Office365 and CAD/BIM software.
