Studying the CELTA at Holmesglen

Your skills and knowledge will be developed through a combination of classroom learning, practical placement, access to online resources, reading, and self-study.<p>Studying the CELTA at Holmesglen includes the standard high-quality training moderated and administered by Cambridge Assessment English, as well as the following Holmesglen customizations:  <p>- multiple input sessions addressing the job coaching required for trainee teachers to obtain post-course employment  <br>- input-raising understanding of assessment practice in sectors specific to Australia, such as VET and ELICOS, as well as international TEFL teaching<br>- multiple opportunities to observe experienced teachers in the globally recognised Australian migrant settlement program the AMEP, teaching ce-to-face a and live online.<br>This observation program is in excess of the minimum requirements established by Cambridge. <br>- additional teaching of grammar during the course, in addition to the completion of a pre-course grammar fundamentals online course.<br>- substantial closed collection of teacher training resources available exclusively to our trainees in our library.<br>access to institute-wide services, including Student Wellbeing services, Skills and Jobs counselling, additional academic support, recreation teams and social activities <p>The course provides thorough and practical training if you are seeking employment as a teacher of English to speakers of other languages in Australia and overseas. While similar to the Certificate IV in TESOL, the CELTA has a higher language proficiency entry requirement and is very well known internationally. It is a popular choice for those looking to teach abroad as well as at home.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18, have an awareness of language and a competence in both written and spoken English that will enable them to do the course and prepare for teaching a range of levels.<p>Applicants must have the potential to develop the necessary skills to become effective teachers and to successfully complete written assignments and the assessment of practice teaching.<p>Please note - to be employed in Australia as an English as a Second Language teacher, you must have gained an undergraduate degree, at a minimum.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. <br> These will assist in determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Timetable

Part-time Chadstone campus (mixed-mode, face-to-face, or online English teaching)<p>Course length: 10 weeks (5 weeks face-to-face and 5 weeks online).<p>Upcoming intake dates: 5 February 2024<p>Feb 2024<p>Apr 2024<p>Jul 2024<p>Oct 2024<p><br><strong>Stage One</strong><br>5 weeks of face-to-face teaching practice days and input on campus at Holmesglen in Chadstone <br>Mondays 9am- 4.15pm and Tuesdays 9am-4.15pm<br> <br><strong>Stage Two</strong><br>5 weeks of online teaching practice evenings from home <br>Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5.30 pm - 9.30 pm + one 75-minute online input session on Wednesdays<p>To achieve this qualification, you are required to successfully complete all units and a teaching practicum, which is organised by Holmesglen.
