Holmesglen’s training pods: A better way to learn plumbing

A plumbing apprentice installs a sink pipe while in a plumbing training pod.

With new mobile training pods, we are changing the way plumbing apprentices are trained.

The pods are designed to give hands-on experience and teach real skills that are essential for modern building and construction jobs.

The training pods help apprentices learn by doing in a safe environment. They reflect our innovative approach to training that ensures graduates are ready to be part of the workforce of the future.

There are ten types of pods, each one focusing on specific plumbing tasks like installing hydronic systems, sanitary plumbing and medical gas systems. The pods let apprentices practise tasks that they will need to do on real worksites, making their training more practical and effective.

Learn by doing with a plumbing course

The pods allow apprentices to work on realistic projects in a safe and controlled environment during their plumbing training. For example:

• The cistern pod shows how pipework is connected and helps apprentices understand plumbing systems.

• The sanitary pod teaches how to install plumbing for bathrooms in homes and businesses.

• The fire hose hydrant pod demonstrates how to assemble and test hydrants using different materials.

The training pods are flexible and can be set up to teach tasks for indoor and outdoor projects, above or below ground and across all types of plumbing work. Multiple pods can also be used at the same time, giving apprentices the chance to work on different skills as part of a team. The pods can also be customised to suit specific building and construction tasks and jobs.

Better training, better jobs

Our training pods are great for apprentices and their employers. By practising real tasks in different ways during their training, apprentices are better prepared for work on actual construction jobs and projects.

This saves employers time and money while helping to address skill shortages in the plumbing industry. The pods are also a highly effective way to train up apprentices for fit outs on large scale civil infrastructure and residential housing projects.

Apprentices also learn about prefabrication, an important part of modern plumbing where sections of pipework are built off site and then installed.

What apprentices are saying about the plumbing pods training

Apprentices who have used the pods love how practical and easy they are to understand. Many say the pods make it easier to learn tasks they will need on site, like connecting pipes or installing systems.

The pods also help build confidence. By practising in a realistic setting, apprentices feel more prepared when they start working on real jobs.
