The Chadstone Career Expo, held in September, proved to be a valuable opportunity for job seekers and employers alike.

Organised by the Holmesglen Employment Centre in collaboration with Chadstone - The Fashion Capital, the event was strategically timed to help retail businesses meet their staffing needs ahead of the busy holiday season.

Held at the Vicinity Tower, the expo was designed to support job seekers looking for both permanent roles and casual positions and was attended by over four hundred aspiring retail workers, including a large number of Holmesglen students.

Holmesglen Employment Centre supports job seekers

Manager of Holmesglen Employment Centre, Cassandra Quinlan confirmed that they received a record number of registrations for the event this year.

“This is the only expo that offers employment directly at every single stand and that’s why this event is such a great success. Where Holmesglen Employment Centre comes in is with interview prep, resume support and professional career advice” said Quinlan.

Top local and international brands were on the lookout for potential candidates, making the expo a unique opportunity for job seekers to secure employment directly.

Clare McCarthy, Senior Retal Manager, Chadstone Vicinity Centres shared her views on supporting retail businesses during peak times.

“We had a large number of our retail partners at the Chadstone Career Expo, hiring for over 500 roles. We are the number one asset in the country, and we always try to support our retailers in growing their business. Being able to assist them with a recruitment process is really important to them”

The expo featured 23 well-known retail brands actively recruiting for various positions, including:

  • Seed Heritage
  • Wittner
  • Zara
  • LEGOLAND Discovery Centre
  • Myer
  • Lululemon
  • Victoria’s Secret

Strong job outcomes and high-calibre candidates

The event yielded impressive results, with 93 candidates receiving job offers or already beginning their new roles. Additionally, about 40 more highly promising candidates are expected to continue progressing through the hiring process with various brands, highlighting the high caliber of applicants.

Feedback from Chadstone Vicinity and participating retailers underscored the quality of this year’s candidate pool. Notably, those who attended last year’s expo noted an improvement in the talent, with many employers praising the diverse skills and professionalism exhibited by this year’s attendees.

A positive impact on the retail community

As the holiday season approaches, events like the Chadstone Career Expo continue to play a critical role in connecting skilled candidates with retail brands in need of dedicated staff. For job seekers and employers alike, the expo served as an efficient and rewarding hiring solution, furthering Chadstone’s commitment to supporting the local business community and helping individuals advance their careers in retail.

“I think it’s a great initiative, especially for students who are just coming into the workplace, and we are hoping to make this event even bigger and better next year” McCarthy said.
