Holmesglen Awards Festival

Celebrates excellence in education and training among our students, staff and industry partners.

Now in its 21st year, the festival features 10 departmental award events and culminates with a gala dinner. Our two Academic Graduations ceremonies at the Art Centre are also held during this exciting fortnight.

Outstanding apprentice winner - Casey Shannon
Outstanding apprentice winner - Casey Shannon
Casey Shannon was presented with the Best Second Year Apprentice honour at the 2018 Trowel Trades Awards Ceremony, having brought the determination from her job as a personal trainer to her training in wall and floor tiling. 
Outstanding certificate student winner - Susan Anandam
Outstanding certificate student winner - Susan Anandam
Speech pathologist Susan Anandam saw the Certificate IV in Education Support as a chance to grow her career in a new direction.  She now works in an education support role at Keysborough Secondary College, after completing a placement at Ashwood High School. 
Outstanding diploma winner - Punya Wijerathna
Outstanding diploma winner - Punya Wijerathna
Punya Wijerathna navigated a career change with determination, making the switch from manufacturing engineering to building design.  The course helped her learn more about green architecture and sustainability. 
Outstanding international student winner - Darwin Fernandez Sulbaran
Outstanding international student winner - Darwin Fernandez Sulbaran
Darwin Fernandez Sulbaran believes the decision to come to Melbourne from Venezuela seven years ago was one of the best he has made. Darwin has since immersed himself in his studies. He completed courses in aged care, pathology and nursing, and has gone on to study a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2019.

Outstanding higher education winner - Ella Strong
Ella Strong’s study pathway has seen her develop her skills progressively, from a Certificate II to Certificate IV and through the Bachelor of Fashion Design, where she was awarded Most Outstanding First Year Student.
Individual achievement award winner - Tia Horrobin
Individual achievement award winner - Tia Horrobin
Tia Horrobin completed a number of work experience placements during her studies, including at Spotlight and Target, of which she said she was most proud. Her Target supervisor reported Tia was one of the hardest working students they had seen. 
Outstanding VCAL winner - Athan Samaras
Outstanding VCAL winner - Athan Samaras
Since finishing his Vocational College studies, Athan Samaras has followed a pathway into the Certificate IV in Digital and Interactive Games and then plans to go onto a diploma course.
