Studying the Diploma of Sport at Holmesglen

At Holmesglen, you'll receive exceptional support from experienced teachers while gaining practical skills in sports coaching and activities at premier facilities like RSEA Park and other Saints venues. You will engage in community sports events, assist physical education staff at local primary schools, and gain valuable hands-on experience during men's and women's St. Kilda game days.<p>In addition, you'll take part in Gala Day sports events, where you will plan, organise, and conduct coaching sessions for local students. A key component of your training is practical placement, designed to bridge the gap between study and employment, requiring a commitment of 150 hours over the course. You will be guided in a supportive environment and must provide a Working with Children Check. All materials and associated costs will be confirmed prior to enrolment.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible students must be at least 18 years of age.<p><strong>Physical requirements</strong><br>Students must possess the physical capacity to complete practical tasks commonly undertaken in sport and event settings, including event setup, equipment handling and participant coordination, while complying with Manual Handling and Work Health and Safety legislation.<p><strong>Additional requirements</strong><br>As the SIS50321 Diploma of Sport is delivered concurrently with the SIT50322 Diploma of Event Management, learners will take part in integrated practical experiences across sport performance and event operations. All students must hold a current Working with Children Check before commencing placement, practical training or external activities. Applicants with prior experience in sport participation, coaching, fitness or event support are encouraged to apply, as relevant experience will be highly regarded during selection.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

Students engage with Holmesglen four days per week, for six hours per day with the classes being both practical and theoretical in nature. The classes are combined face to face on campus and virtual off campus 'clustered' classes.<p>To receive the SIS50321 Diploma of Sport qualification, you must complete 14 units, which comprise of 3 core units and 11 elective units.(The SIT50322 Diploma of Events qualification has an additional 20 units). <p>Elective units have been chosen to support the vocational outcome of the students to become High-Performance Sports coach, Sport Development manager, Sport program or Sport Projects manager within a variety of Australian sport industries. These units are chosen for the students to provide a range of Sport, Coaching, Management or Admin services within the industry upon graduation of this qualification. Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Additional Course Cost

Learners will be required to wear appropriate clothing and footwear and provide required documentation when undertaking practical activities. Students are required to supply: <br> <br>* Closed toe, non slip sports shoes <br>* Appropriate sports attire ( t-shirts, shorts, track pants, wet weather clothing) <br>* National Police Records Check (only if required by a host organisation) <br> <br>The approximate cost $300 <br> <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.
