Studying the Bachelor of Sport Business at Holmesglen

Study the Diploma of Sport at Holmesglen, featuring four streams: Sport Management, Commercial Sport, Sports Media, and Sport Development. Graduates are prepared for various roles, including positions in professional sports, sports leagues, consulting, government agencies, venues, and event companies.<p>This course offers extensive internship opportunities, allowing students to gain practical experience in sporting organizations. With 228 hours of industry engagement, you'll benefit from guest lectures and field trips that enrich your learning experience.<p>Our degree prepares you for real-world challenges, ensuring you learn valuable skills to achieve your career goals in the sports industry. Our academic staff brings extensive expertise in business, management, marketing, sponsorship, venue management, government, and media.<p>At Holmesglen, we are committed to supporting our students to achieve their learning goals, so we provide small classes with hands-on experiences. With small classes, you won't be lost in the crowd. You'll soon get to know your fellow students and feel part of Holmesglen - and your teachers will know you as an individual.

Entry Requirements

<strong>Eligibility Criteria:</strong><p>To be eligible, students must be at least 17 years of age.<p><strong>Applicants with Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)</strong><br> - Your ATAR will form part of the selection consideration. <br> - You will need to fill in a supplementary application form.<br> - You will be required to attend an interview. Holmesglen will contact applicants to arrange an interview and details will be confirmed by mail or email. For further information about the interview see "Admission requirements for all applicants".<br> <br><strong>For Applicants with<br> - Higher Education Study<br> - Vocational Education and Training (VET) Study<br> - Work and Life Experience</strong>:<br> - Your entire academic record will be considered. <br> - You will need to fill in a supplementary application form.<br> - You will be required to attend an interview. Holmesglen will contact applicants to arrange an interview and details will be confirmed by mail or email.
Applicants who meet the required minimum admission criteria may be selected for an offer of a place in an undergraduate course. If you don’t meet the admission criteria, there are still other ways to gain entry into Holmesglen. Applicant’s preparedness, aptitude and ability to cope with formal tertiary study at this qualification level will be determined through review of the supplementary application forms which includes details of previous formal/non-formal qualifications or work life experiences. You will need to attend an interview which will determine your suitability for the course and if there is any support that needs to be put in place for successful completion.

Advanced standing

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Read more about gaining advanced standing and credits.

Course Structure

Timetable

1st Years - FT: 3 days per week, Monday 9am-4pm, Tuesday 9am-12pm, Wednesday 9am-1pm.<br>2nd Years - FT: 3 days per week, Wednesday 2pm-5pm, Thursday 9am-4pm, Friday 9am-12pm.<br>3rd Years - FT: 2 days per week, Tuesday 1.30pm-9pm, Thursday 1pm-4pm.</strong><p><strong>Mode of study:</strong> Full-time, on-campus face-to-face delivery.<p>All new students commencing in a higher education course must attend their faculty course orientation and Holmesglen's higher education orientation.<p><strong>Major studies</strong><br>Sport management, athlete management, social media, sport business, sport development and coaching, sport event tourism, sport media, sport sponsorship, sport venue and event management, sports governance, sports marketing.<p><strong>Work placements/internships</strong><br>In the third year of the degree students are required to undertake a 228 hour (six-week full-time equivalent) internship which provides experience to assist with a seamless transition into the workforce upon fulfilling the course requirements. We have some of Australia’s leading sports organisations as internship hosts including Melbourne Stars, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Basketball Victoria.<p>This course is comprised of 23 subjects: 20 core subjects and 3 elective subjects.<p>To receive this qualification, you must complete 23 units in total, comprising of 20 core units and 3 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.

Student Services and Amenities Fee $365 Per Year

All local higher education students are required to pay a compulsory Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). This fee contributes to the cost of providing student support services including counselling, welfare services, learning support and other activities provided by the student support and wellbeing teams. The SSAF is charged each semester and the amount you pay depends on whether you’re a full time or part time student. The annual maximum amount is set by the Government and will vary according to your study load. Students studying on campus and online will be charged the same SSAF based on their study load. All local higher education students are required to pay this fee at the time of enrolment. Tuition Assurance Requirements

Under the Higher Education Support Act 2003, Holmesglen Institute must meet tuition assurance requirements for persons, other than overseas students, who are enrolled in the higher education courses we offer in the event we cease to provide a course of study in which a student is enrolled.
