Studying the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at Holmesglen
The partial completion of the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) course that can only be completed as part of a VCE or VCAL program.
Through the combination of face-to-face, online and practical learning, you will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to work effectively as a professional team member in an early childhood service.
These skills include gaining an understanding of legal and ethical requirements, engaging with young children and their families, facilitating children's leisure and play, and fostering holistic development and wellbeing.
The course will be delivered through a mixture of online activities, classroom delivery and simulated Early Learning Centre environment.
Graduates of the full certificate may work under direct supervision and may also have limited supervisory responsibilities of volunteers.
The two years' part time study through the VET Delivered to Secondary Students program will give you an opportunity to continue your studies in the Early Childhood Education field.
You will learn using role plays, simulations, project work and will have the opportunity to participate in work experience which may be undertaken in a variety of early childhood settings.
Course structure
Timetable: 1 day per week, Wednesday: 1.30pm to 4.30pm
Students wishing to obtain the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care will be required to complete additional units and formal placement hours.
To receive the full qualification, you must complete 15 core units and 2 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry.

Assessment
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
Entry requirements
Students are required to be enrolled in a Victorian Secondary School for entry into this program.
A current Working With Children Check card is a requirement for practical placement. Some criminal convictions may prevent an applicant from obtaining a Working With Children Check card and therefore they will not be able to complete the course.
Candidates must be able to complete the Practicum requirements of this course.
Outcomes
Qualification and recognition
Students will receive a Statement of Attainment for completed units of competency at the end of the two year program.
