This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students (previously VETiS) course and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCAL program.

The Certificate III IN Early Childhood Education and Care enables you to plan and implement appropriate care and educational experiences for young children.

Through the combination of face-to-face, online and practicum based learning, you will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to work effectively as a professional team member in an early childhood service.

These skills include gaining an understanding of legal and ethical requirements, engaging with young children and their families, facilitating children's leisure and play, and fostering holistic development and wellbeing.

Graduates may work under direct supervision and may also have limited supervisory responsibilities of volunteers.

The two years' part time study through the VETDSS program will give you an opportunity to commence your studies in the Early Childhood Education field.

The course will be delivered through a mixture of online activities, classroom delivery and simulated Early Learning Centre environment.

You will learn using role plays, simulations, project work and a total of 120 hours of structured workplace learning over two years (60 hours per year), which will be undertaken in a variety of early childhood settings.

This course is designed for educators who are responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating early childhood education and care programs.

As a graduate, you will have responsibility for the supervision of other staff and volunteers, and this may also lead to employment as a children's services director or coordinator.

If you have already completed the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you will be able to complete this diploma in one year instead of 1.5 years.

After successfully completing this course, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to explore a career in a wide range of children's services.

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching prepares students as specialists in the teaching of children from birth to 12 years.

Graduates will be qualified to teach in primary schools and in early childhood settings, and will be eligible to apply for Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration. All students wishing to graduate with a teaching qualification will be required by the Federal Government to successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) tests by the end of Year 3, in order to be eligible to progress to Year 4 of the program. View further information about this test here.

Graduates work in state, independent and Catholic education sectors.

Our students learn through a combination of on-campus theory and well supported practicum experiences. Students attend practicum within every semester of the course and across a range of early childhood education areas including pre-schools/kindergartens and primary schools.

Lecturers teaching in the Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching have significant and extensive experience across a range of early childhood and primary settings, and extensive higher education teaching expertise.
