The goal of the Data Science Bootcamp is to transform you into a professional data scientist. The  bootcamp will provide you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to launch a career in data science. You will learn how to navigate and use these data science tools from SQL to Python to Machine Learning.  With the support of a diverse community of mentors and peers, our industry-driven bootcamp programs will provide you with the skills and support to kick-start your career pathway as a Data Scientist, Engineer, Analyst, or other data-driven role.

What you will learn

How the Data Science Bootcamp is structured:

    9AM - 10AM
    Morning self-study
    This is your time to settle in, practise yesterday's lessons, some data science tools, libraries, environments, and workflows, and get ready for the day before morning lecture starts promptly at 10am.

    10AM - 12PM
    Interactive morning lecture
    Led by our awesome instructors, morning lectures elaborate on the concepts you'll need to know as a Data Scientist. Lectures help you better understand the theory, and give you new perspectives to solve issues you may encounter throughout the day.

  • Work on exercises and projects
    This is when you get your hands dirty. You'll be working for the majority of the day on completing your assignments and data projects. If you get stuck, just holler and our mentors will come running.

    5PM - 6PM
    Take a break
    This is your chance to stretch your legs, breathe fresh air, and grab some food before your evening coding sprint.

    6PM - 9PM
    Continue work on projects
    Evening mentors are available as you continue working on the day's challenges and prepare for the following day.

Admission Process


To ensure that everyone who passes through this program is set up for success, we use the following admissions process:

    1. Apply online
    6-10 weeks before your intended start date, you'll fill out a short application to introduce yourself with the important details that help us get to know you. New cohorts fill up on a rolling basis, so make sure you submit your application as soon as possible.

    2. Interview
    This group interview will give us another way to understand you better, and talk to you all about the bootcamp. This is also your opportunity to ask us questions and meet some of your potential classmates.
  • After the last stage, successful candidates are sent over study material that will prepare them for the assessments. Coding experience isn't necessary to perform well here. You'll complete them on your own time within 2 weeks.

    4. Enrol and Prep for the Program
    Once you're accepted into a cohort, you'll need to submit a deposit by credit card to reserve your spot. The rest of your tuition is due 2 weeks before your start date. For more information on our payment plans, please contact 03 9564 1546.

    Before starting, you'll spend 70 hours completing prep modules. These will introduce you to the basic technologies you'll use throughout the bootcamp. You will need to complete these at least 1 week before your first day of bootcamp.

No, applicants to Holmesglen Data Science Bootcamp do not need to be Holmesglen students. This program is offered through our partner, Lighthouse Labs.
The first step to becoming a data scientist is laying your basic foundation with our Prep Course. The 70 hours you’ll spend on completing preparatory work will introduce the basic technologies you’ll use to get you ready and set to learn in the classroom on Day 1.
Data analysts use past data to draw meaningful insights, identify trends, develop charts, solve problems and help businesses make more strategic decisions. They analyze well-defined sets of data using different tools to answer tangible business questions.
Data Scientists estimate and predict the unknown by asking questions, writing algorithms, and building predictive models to help businesses make more strategic decisions. Data scientists are typically tasked with designing data modeling processes, as well as creating algorithms and predictive models to extract the information needed by an organization to solve complex problems.
No previous data science, data analysis, or programming experience is required to attend Lighthouse Labs. As with our Web Development Bootcamp, every student needs some serious grit to excel (ha!) here, as well as a commitment to teamwork and a genuine interest in building their future career in business.
The Bootcamp educational model is built very differently from the way you learned in high school and/or university. Holmesglen’s partner Lighthouse Labs practises a flipped, immersive model of education that puts the emphasis on the development of practical skills through building real-world applications using an incremental and cumulative collection of tools and best practices.
Lectures take up a maximum of two and a half hours on any given day, with another eight to ten hours being spent each day working in a lab setting. You can expect to introduce yourself to new concepts through readings and exercises, getting your knowledge bolstered and backfilled with lectures throughout the week.
It is our core belief that 70% of the learning should be done on the job and we’ve tailored every part of our program around it. Our curriculum is constantly iterated and updated by a community of passionate data science mentors based on feedback from employers, students, alumni, and industry trends. We won’t teach you everything about Data Science (that takes years of practice), but we will give you the foundation so you can continue learning in your new career as a Data Scientist as quickly as possible.
The relevance of data science skills to a career goes beyond traditional roles like data analysts and data scientists. Because of the increased digitization of practically every industry, and the explosion of available data, being well-versed in data can be a lucrative skill for nearly everyone.
