The Certificate IV in Information Technology will give you the opportunities to begin a career in networking cyber security, programming and ICT support.

Industry needs people like you to support the rapid growth of the digital world. This is a fully online generalist course providing you with the online resources to be flexible in your learning time and location.

This course gives you an opportunity to focus on three key skill areas in information technology. You will need to complete 5 core units and 15 elective units. The elective streams you can select from include:
o Networking
o Cyber security
o ICT support
o Programming and Web
o IT project management

The networking stream of electives is designed to rapidly build strong foundation skills and knowledge for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting small to medium network environments. Holmesglen is a CISCO Networking Academy and as part of this course you will be enrolled in the Cisco Academy course – Introduction to Networks.

The cyber security elective stream starts with the ASD Experience program which introduces the cyber security concepts, threats and security practices. Holmesglen is also a Fortinet Academy and students have the opportunity to undertake NSE1 Network Security Technology Foundations training, as well as the Cisco Cybersecurity Fundamentals course. The cyber security stream gives you the skills and knowledge to secure computer equipment and introduces you to Python programming, a key scripting language used in PEN testing.

The ICT support stream introduces critical IT Essential skills and knowledge to install software, configure operating systems, troubleshoot PC and basic networking issues, and maintain PC equipment to ensure efficient operation.

In the Programming and Web stream the basic concepts of programming language used in designing and developing software is introduced. Programming skills for designing and developing a web interface also introduced.

Project work frequently occurs as part of an IT position. Project work is different to everyday IT tasks. It requires skills in scoping, planning, resource selection, reporting and managing completion of tasks to meet milestones and timelines. This elective stream introduces project management skills, knowledge and basic tools used in managing an IT project.

Holmesglen's Bachelor of Information Systems has a practical, hands-on approach to learning, focused on building technical skills from the ground up.

The course gives students broad capability across the areas of networking, programming and web design, database design, cyber security and business analytics.

Subjects feature learning in business analysis, cloud computing, virtualisation, cyber security, big data and business intelligence, business management, information security and network security.

Holmesglen works closely with leading companies in the IT industry, including Cisco, VMware, Fortinet, Microsoft and Amazon Web Services to ensure this course is industry current. With this Bachelor, you will gain the practical experience and theoretical knowledge to be productive in the workforce from day one.
