The Certificate IV In Laboratory Techniques provides you with training in all aspects of laboratory operations, including occupational health and safety (OHS), analytical instrumentation, laboratory management systems, chemistry, microscopy and biological techniques.

The course is delivered in Holmesglen's specialised pathology and biotechnology education facility, where an emphasis is placed on practical training.
Our instrumentation is reflective of what you will use in industry, and will prepare you to confidently start your career in a laboratory.

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
Process and interpret data
Maintain and calibrate instruments and equipment
Apply quality system and continuous improvement processes
Maintain laboratory or field workplace safety
Receive and prepare samples for testing
Prepare practical science classes and demonstrations
Use laboratory application software
Relate anatomical and physiological features to laboratory samples
Perform aseptic techniques
Perform microscopic examination
Prepare, standardise and use solutions
Perform chemical tests and procedures
Perform biological procedures
Undertake environmental field-based monitoring
Perform tissue and cell culture techniques
Good passes in all subjects at Year 12/ Matriculation or the overseas equivalent
English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (Academic) with no individual bandscore
less than 5.5.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION
After completing this course, you will receive the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques.
Diploma of Laboratory Technology
Laboratory assistant or technician in medical, environmental, industrial, food, educational or commercial laboratories.
