Overview
The Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) is a pre-apprenticeship electrical course, providing an introduction to the electrical/electronics industries in areas such as electrical, renewable energy, air conditioning/refrigeration and instrumentation.

Studying the Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) at Holmesglen
The course will enable you to develop broad-based competencies in a range of electrotechnology fields, such as lighting, general power, fire protection and security, robotics, instrumentation, optical data and voice systems, electrical motors and control systems.
Gain experience in the trade and use your skills to make informed choices in the selection of vocational career paths. You will gain a recognised qualification as well as credits for further training as an apprentice in the electrotechnology industry.
The course involves face-to-face theory classes, some self-study online, and practical skills training in our simulated practical workshop area on campus. For online self-study, a tablet or laptop is required, and for the work simulations carried out on campus in the workshop, you will require work wear, work boots, and clear safety glasses.

Timetable
Full Time for 9 weeks; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am – 4pm
Part Time for 18 weeks; 2 evenings 5.30pm to 9.30pm and Saturdays 8am – 4pm (available at North Melbourne and Moorabbin only)
Note: There is no part-time option for this course at Drummond St. Chadstone.

Assessment
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
Entry requirements
To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.
Holmesglen recommends learners have a minimum of Year 10 level English and Mathematics; Year 11 is highly recommended. This course is not recommended if you find mathematics at this level challenging.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
Recognition of prior learning
You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
