22338VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre- apprenticeship (Carpentry) is for both school leavers and mature age who wish to build their practical experience and knowledge to ensure their employment opportunities as an apprentice carpenter.

Carpenters are the key players in domestic house construction - they're the first on site, and the last to leave.

While carpenters have their specific skills and tasks to perform in the building process, carpenters must have knowledge of all other trades, as a carpenter's work often accommodates the other trades who follow them.

Our 22338VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre- apprenticeship (Carpentry) covers all skills and knowledge required for domestic building, at the entry level, including all the tools and equipment used by carpenters.

All teaching is delivered by professional teachers, who have served formal apprenticeships and worked as carpenters in the building and construction sector for a minimum of ten years, prior to undertaking their teaching qualifications.


This course provides practical training in shopfitting, joinery and stair building.

It is suitable for those about to commence a shopfitting, joinery and stair building apprenticeship, or those who are keen to obtain one.

The course covers basic hand tool skills, practical joinery skills, shopfitting, the safe use of power tools and project work and includes the construction of doors, windows and stairways.

All work is done on full-sized projects at Holmesglen with our specially designed facility.Job prospects for students who complete this course are excellent, with the majority gaining apprenticeships in either joinery,shopfitting or stairbuilding.


This course provides comprehensive training for carpentry apprentices, and covers all practical and theoretical aspects of the trade.

All workshop training is delivered by professional teachers, who have completed formal apprenticeships and worked as carpenters in the building and construction sector for a minimum of 10 years, prior to undertaking their teaching qualifications.


The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as a specialist field of work.

This course provides comprehensive training in all practical and theoretical aspects of joinery.

You will learn to manufacture and assemble joinery components; Oxy-LPG; cut and install glass; install windows and doors; computer-controlled/static machinery, and undertake sustainable practices in the construction industry.

Where possible, work is undertaken on full sized projects in Holmesglen's specially designed and industry recognised facilities.


This course provides you with comprehensive training in all practical and theoretical aspects of shopfitting.

You will learn to assemble cabinets and showcases, install windows and doors, and work sustainably in the construction industry.

You will be taught in Holmesglen's specially designed facilities, where an emphasis is placed on providing hands on, practical training.
