This qualification has been designed to meet the needs of the building professional who coordinates the construction of a building, taking responsibility for the overall completion of the job, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with the client.

The building professional may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the state or territory.

Throughout the course you will learn the professional skills and knowledge required for the management, supervision and administration of residential, industrial and commercial building projects.

With many comprehensive building elements will be incorporated into project based learning, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical and research skills in an environment of self paced learning, which may include study tours and site visits.


Course structure

To receive this qualification you must complete 13 core units and five elective units.

Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.

If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these will be counted towards completion of this program.

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards

Entry requirements

Good passes at Year 12/Matriculation or the overseas equivalent

¬ēEnglish language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (Academic) with no individual bandscore
less than 5.5.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Outcomes

QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION

Following completion of this course, students are eligible to receive the award qualification CPC50210  Diploma of Building and Construction (Building).

The diploma is nationally recognised and is supported by the Building Practitioners Board (BPB), the Australian Institute of Builders (AIB) and the Housing Industry Association (HIA).

PATHWAYS

Graduates may have the opportunity to articulate into one of Holmesglen's building degree programs or other university degree programs.

Pathways for International students


On satisfactory completion of the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), you will be eligible to enter into the Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics with up to 1 year’s advanced standing.
All students transitioning from Vocational to Higher Education will enter a Transition to Degree Program prior to the commencement of their Degree classes to ensure their preparedness for Higher Education studies.

At Holmesglen, we offer an entire suite of building courses designed to meet the strong demand predicted over the upcoming years, all of which follow a national framework meaning your qualification will be recognized nationally. Visit us on Open Day for a formal a presentation at 6.30pm highlighting pathway options and career outcomes in the Building and Construction industry. Following the presentation you will have the opportunity to speak to industry experienced teachers who will give you the information and advise you about each entry stream.
