Studying the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) at Holmesglen
This course can be undertaken full time, part time, or as a flexible mix of online and face-to-face learning so you can fit your study around your work and personal life commitments.
Throughout the course, you will learn the professional skills and knowledge required for the management, supervision and administration of residential, industrial and commercial building projects.
With many comprehensive building elements will be incorporated into project-based learning, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical and research skills in an environment of self paced learning, which may include study tours and site visits.
If you opt for the flexible delivery, this combines off-campus study via online course material, with optional drop-in tutorials scheduled out of normal working hours at both the St Kilda Rd and Chadstone campuses.
The flexible course delivery is divided into four stages, which usually need to be completed in order. While the course typically takes two years to complete, there is flexibility to complete the course sooner.
To receive this qualification you must complete 13 core units and five elective units.
Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.
If the learner has already completed other eligible elective units, these will be counted towards completion of this program.

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
Students are recommended to have equivalent of Year 11 Maths, or be mature aged with work experience.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview.
These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
Recognition of prior learning
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Qualification and recognition
On completion, you will attain the CPC50210 Diploma of Building and Construction (building)
The diploma is nationally recognised and is supported by the Building Practitioners Board (BPB), the Australian Institute of Builders (AIB) and the Housing Industry Association (HIA).
