Nursing student earns fellowship at Holmesglen Private Hospital
A BNURS13 Bachelor of Nursing learner, Warren Alovera’s passion secured him a Healthscope Holmesglen Private Hospital Fellowship.
As part of the fellowship, Warren used what he learned in our simulation labs and experienced how to provide intravenous, subcutaneous and oral medications with supervision.
Warren assisted with patient admissions and discharges, and learned the fundamentals of bedside care. His fellowship also provided valuable practical experience in reassuring patients and families during sensitive times.
Our nursing diploma and degree courses use a blend of on-campus training (where learners train in simulation wards) and supported clinical placements.
Nursing fellowships are designed to give learners that little bit extra knowledge. They’re an opportunity to see how the skills they’ve learned in our training facilities are applied in a real healthcare environment.
“Clinical placements and fellowships provide an extension to your learning. They provide students with substantial opportunities to integrate theories into practice and further cultivate their skills. They assist us in becoming more confident and aware of our future professional identity,” Warren says.
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Nursing, graduates may register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Warren hopes to pursue post-graduate study and follow a career in acute or high-dependency settings, which include surgical wards and ICU.
“Holmesglen has [unlocked] my full potential to be successful. They have effectively equipped me with all the essential tools I need to be a distinguished nurse.”
