A bold and bright design by Melbourne artist Robert Scholten features on the cover of Holmesglen's latest Course Guide with artwork celebrating the fabulous and familiar landmarks that are uniquely Melbourne.
Students might recognise the cover image from the mural Robert painted in the Building 1 Lecture Theatre at our Chadstone campus.
This year our Course Guide features 185 accredited courses across all study areas, together with more than 20 student testimonials, along with information on:
• study pathways
• scholarship information
• campus life
• how to apply
• student success stories.

We caught up with artist Robert Scholten to find out what inspired the mural imagery.
What inspired your Holmesglen mural design?
The inspiration behind the mural was the student journey. This is a place where students from different backgrounds come together, many for the first time coming to live in Melbourne. We tried to show this layered experience through a mixture of images and symbols as well as saying welcome to Melbourne.
What did you like most about working with Holmesglen?
The Holmesglen team was amazing. They were very supportive, creative and open to ideas. It was definitely a smooth and efficient experience working together.
When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I've always loved making art, so it's hard to pinpoint an exact time. One important moment was when I left the graphic design field to become a full-time artist, which was a big (and scary) step.
To be honest, I'm a bit of an art geek, so I'm constantly exploring different forms of art. It’s too hard for me to pick one; so, I'll say all the above!
I think art is so important. We are surrounded by art everywhere and it inspires and uplifts us.
How does if feel to have your artwork on the Course Guide?
It's a very special honour to be on the cover. Knowing that it's out there having a positive impact on people is awesome!
What advice do you have for anyone thinking of a career in the art world?
Talent is great, but also tenacity and a positive attitude. Another thing is to enjoy the journey, we are always learning and improving. And draw a lot!
