How to start an IT career with a web development course

How-to-start-an-in-demand-IT-career-with-a-web-development-course.jpgHolmesglen IT graduate Lorenzo Del Rosario says web development is an area of IT that can “fulfil today and tomorrow’s needs" and has helped him secure multiple jobs while studying.

Lorenzo previously studied product design in Italy and chose Holmesglen to help him change career direction after coming to Australia.

His web development diploma at Holmesglen has given him front-end, back-end and design skills to enter the web and digital media industry.

Web development is an IT field with increasing opportunities for students and graduates. In 2019, job site Seek predicted job growth to increase by almost 10 per cent over the next five years."

Lorenzo has experienced that jobs growth firsthand and already works as a freelance JavaScript Developer and React.js Developer for various clients.

What does a web developer do?

Web developers work across different platforms and technologies. They help provide prototypes and develop websites for clients across all industries.

At Holmesglen, students learn about these different technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS3, GIT, and more.

Lorenzo utilises these skills daily.

“In one job, I apply bug fixes to websites and to the business products, assist the designer with the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design and enhance some of the business product features.

“In another role, I’m the only React.js Developer and I’ve been tasked with completing a blockchain notarization web app. I basically have all the front-end tasks. For example, the design part of the UX, styling, and connecting the APIs.”

Lorenzo’s advice for aspiring web developers

“It’s an amazing field if you’re passionate about it. It’s rewarding and opens the door to a lot of possibilities. It’s also a job that is in increasing demand and you can work from anywhere.”
