Holmesglen wins international award for Apprentice Support Centre

Our Apprentice Support Centre team has received Gold at the 2018 World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) Awards of Excellence ceremony.

The Awards of Excellence ceremony was held as part of the WFCP’s 2018 World Congress, which saw vocational education leaders from across the world attend the three-day conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

The award is presented each year to an education provider that has provided excellent service that contributes to the overall student experience.

Our Apprentice Support Centre was established in 2016 through a Victorian Government Community Service Fund grant. The creation was to address the issue of falling apprentice completion rates.

Officers work across four key areas: pastoral care, mentoring, financial support, and course and learning support. In 2017, 92% of apprentices and pre-apprentices who used the services were retained in their training, with a unit completion rate of 93.4%.

The team and department has grown to become Apprentice Central a collection of Apprentice Support Officers, Engagement Officers and administration staff who go on-site and in classrooms to talk with employers and apprentices and assist in the enrolment, induction and retention of our apprentices.
