Australia's pie master

A pie is as synonymous with Australian culture as the footy and beach. Now, Holmesglen graduate, and pie aficionado, Chan Khun is making his mark on the classic pastry.

Chan’s creations hold the title of Australia’s Best Pie, following a Baking Association of Australia ceremony held on the Gold Coast. Owner of Kyneton’s Country Cob Bakery, Chan and his team won various awards, including the competition’s highest honour. 

The leading hospitality professional was quick to reflect on his time in the classroom when observing the achievements.

“It’s often not what you cook, it’s how you cook. In class, what you learn are the principles of basic skills. You should strive to be the best. One of my teachers always said that if you want to be a baker, you’ve got to try to be the best one, not an average one,” said Chan.
