We tailor all of our sessions to suit the subject area and education level of each class or individual. Librarians will highlight aspects of the collection and online resources most suited to student and faculty needs. Students and teaching staff can book these sessions by contacting their branch, Liaison Librarian or filling in the online booking form.

These sessions can be booked at each campus library.

Staff can book a Library orientation lecture by inviting their Liaison Librarians to present at their Course Orientation or during a class. We offer a brief 10-15 minute presentation highlighting the library facilities, as well as introducing students to the resources specifically for their subject area. We put a friendly face to our service and encourage students to come and make use of our facilities.
Library staff can take teachers and their classes for short tours of the library, introducing them to borrowing from the collection, using the computers, photocopying, printing, and more. During the tour, librarians can also introduce subject specific library guides and Library Search, the online catalogue. They will also demonstrate how to find items on the shelves and online. A tour and Library Search session in the library takes 30 minutes.

These sessions are designed to help students start the research process. We recommend staff book a research skills session for their class when an assignment has been given to students. We tailor the session to the assignment, to help students find relevant books, journal articles, reports, standards or statistics online and from our databases. Liaison Librarians can deliver content in one session, or in a series of shorter sessions.

Students can also book a session to assist them with starting their research assignment. Sessions run for no longer than 60 minutes.

Liaison Librarians can provide a basic introduction to referencing and plagiarism, or a more advanced session on Endnote referencing software. These sessions are tailored to student skill level, and can provide timely support when assignments are due. For information about referencing styles offered at Holmesglen, visit our referencing page.

Referencing sessions run for 60 minutes.

Individual and small group sessions designed to meet the specific needs of students or faculty staff conducting research. These specialised sessions can be booked at each campus library and can cover a wide range of research and referencing needs.
