Please note, while some employers have received notification about the training for their apprentice, for those who haven't you will receive confirmation the week prior of your apprentice’s scheduled attendance.

We want to reassure you that while you may receive this specific advice providing permission for your apprentice to attend campus for approved training, the choice remains with you as an employer and your apprentice as to whether you agree to their on campus attendance.

Where you and your apprentice are notified that your apprentice can attend on campus training you can advise us that you do not wish for this to occur. However, if apprentices do not attend, this may impact on their expected completion date.

We understand this is an extremely challenging time for everyone and you have our firm commitment that we will try to accommodate change requests to Individual Training Plans.

As these arrangements may be customised for each employer/apprentice we ask for your patience and understanding as our teaching areas work through the impacts.

What government support is available?

The Victorian Registrations and Qualifications Authority website has information about the Commonwealth and Victorian government's support options in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

It also answers common questions about changing a training contract and helps employers of apprentices and trainees, including group training organisations, consider their options in these challenging times.

Should I still enrol my new apprentice at Holmesglen?

Holmesglen continues to enrol and commence new apprentices.

What health and safety measures are in place  on campus?

  •  Appropriate social distancing when indoors (1 person per four square metres)
  • More regular cleaning of learning spaces (desks, equipment etc.) across all campuses with hospital grade sanitisation
  • Learners will be zoned into specific learning spaces to minimise contact with students from other groups who they are not normally in contact with.
  •  Scheduling of staggered break times for learners, to minimise contact with other learners
  • Students recommended to bring BYO learning devices (laptops, tablet devices) to access learning resources on Brightspace. This is in preference to using shared learning devices.
  • The move of units, wherever possible, to online or remote learning.

Does my apprentice have to attend TAFE?

As employers of apprentices, we understand the challenges you may encounter over the next few months. We also appreciate the vital contribution your apprentice(s) makes to the success of your business and the Victorian economy.

We ask that you make every effort to send your apprentice to TAFE as per their timetable, to meet the Individual Training Plans as per the Apprenticeship Trade Training Requirements.

If we are required to postpone on-campus trade training, we ask that you support your apprentice to continue with any available remote training.

We will continue to review all teaching and activities on-campus, events, and planned social activities, and will keep you updated with any changes.

My apprentice is unwell

Please do not send apprentices to TAFE if they are unwell. They will need to seek medical advice. If your apprentice is concerned about their health and requires testing for COVID-19, please let us know by calling the Holmesglen Information line on 9564 1900.

What if testing confirms my apprentice has COVID-19?

Your apprentice should call the dedicated Holmesglen Information Line on 9564 1900 to report the case and answer some basic questions about when they which campuses they have been on and when they were last on campus. If your apprentice is unable to call, please call on their behalf.

Please also follow all of the required medical and self-isolation advice being provided to you at that stage.

In this scenario, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) should also be contacting Holmesglen so we can ensure we respond accordingly.

All student details and personal information will be subject to privacy provisions.

Holmesglen will notify affected students if we have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in accordance with advice from the DHHS.

My apprentice just returned from overseas and will be self-isolated for 14 days

Please do not attend campus and advise us by calling Apprentice Central on 9564 1888. Apprentice Central will advise the teaching department.

Our Apprentice Central team is transitioning from on-site appointments to complete enrolment to ones done remotely via email and phone. This alternative means we can continue to enrol new apprentices without face-to-face contact. Find out more about Apprentice Central
