Outstanding International Student - Winner
Darwin Fernandez Sulbaran believes the decision to come to Melbourne from Venezuela seven years ago was one of the best he has made.
Darwin has since immersed himself in his studies. He completed courses in aged care, pathology and nursing, and has gone on to study a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2019.
Darwin works in the Alfred Hospital’s emergency department as a phlebotomist.
“He is reliable and enthusiastic about learning new skills. He is professional in all dealings with medical and nursing staff,” says Alfred Hospital Pathology Collection Supervisor Donna Williams.
This year, he has become a member of the Student Voice Committee. The group works with different institutes across Australia to promote student decision making and the overall student voice.
Darwin believes nursing has given him perspective and empathy. “Life’s short and you have to be accountable for what you do.”
