Outstanding Higher Education Student - Winner
Ella Strong’s study pathway has seen her develop her skills progressively, from a Certificate II to Certificate IV and through the Bachelor of Fashion Design, where she was awarded Most Outstanding First Year Student.
“Holmesglen became part of my support system and became my second home,” she says.
Ella received a gold medal at the 2017 WorldSkills’ Melbourne East regionals, and then was a finalist at the national competition. Her collections have featured at Melbourne Fashion Week, a World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics gala event and at Underground Runway for the 2018 Holmesglen Student Showcase.
Ella’s love for fashion started when she was young. And she knew studying just the usual secondary school subjects wouldn’t be quite the right fit for her goals.
So she enrolled through her school in a VET Delivered to Secondary School Students program, previously known as VETiS – which enabled her to start studying fashion subjects alongside her other secondary school subjects.
She’s keen to explore the technical side of the fashion industry. “I just want to get into the industry and show them what I can do, and so far I am doing that.”
