The Royal Children’s Hospital
Holmesglen works with The Royal Children's Hospital to deliver an integrated practical placement program for students with disability.
Groups of students from the Certificate I in Work Education undertake the program through full-time placements at the hospital.
The program blends their full-time course with work at The Royal Children's Hospital. Students complete three, nine week placements per year. The class is split across various areas of the hospital, including medical records, allied health, volunteer and family services, the early learning centre, kitchen, mailroom and equipment departments.
Students are selected following an application and interview process. They receive four hours of placement each day, which will provide further personal and professional development to their studies.
The primary goal is for them to be looking towards a vocational pathway when they finish their study. Several students have already been offered continued employment with The Royal Children’s Hospital. The project is modelled on successful UK programs and is designed to increase employability outcomes. The Health Science, Youth and Community Studies Faculty is analysing the difference between job outcomes in students completing an integrated practical placement program in contrast to learners who study on campus. The aim is to find the best learning practice model.
Our Community and Transitional Education Department was successful in applying for $50,000 from the Jobs Victoria Innovation Fund to assist with the project.
Cross Yarra Partnership
CYP Design & Construction (CYP D&C) is a joint venture comprising John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Lendlease contracted to deliver the Metro Tunnel Project’s $6 billion Tunnels and Stations work package.
CYP D&C, in partnership with Holmesglen Institute, established MetroHub to provide project-specific employment and training for people working on the Tunnels and Stations package.
This phase of the Metro Tunnel Project created some 5,000 jobs – including more than 500 apprentices, trainees and engineering cadets, all supported and facilitated by MetroHub.
Through MetroHub, workers received professional development opportunities on-campus.
Through MetroHub, Holmesglen also:
- provided specialised employment support to priority job seekers and displaced workers via Holmesglen’s Skills and Jobs Centre.
- supported the completion of training programs e.g. White card, Certificate III in Civil Construction, Business traineeship, Tunnelling induction.
- worked in alignment with the Project Workforce Development and Training Management Plan.
- offered a mix of classroom, simulated and workplace learning delivery modes.
St Kilda Football Club
Holmesglen has partnered with St Kilda Football Club, in an agreement which benefits both students and club members through internships and training.
The Saints have created internship and work experience opportunities for students while Holmesglen are providing St Kilda Football Club players, staff and members with education and training opportunities.
A key focus of Holmesglen’s Vision 2020 is our commitment to continue to work with and within our communities. The opportunity to partner with the St Kilda Football Club in Moorabbin has great potential to enhance our work in the communities we share.
St Kilda Football Club moved back to its traditional home, Moorabbin, in 2018 – with RSEA Park located only a few blocks from our Moorabbin campus.
Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA)
Holmesglen has expanded its partnership with the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), following our commitment to a four-year jumper sponsorship of the competition. A collaboration that began with a joint applied learning project, which progressed to a naming rights sponsorship of the Under 19s competition in 2016, Holmesglen and the VAFA’s shared values have enabled the evolution of this relationship.
Many members of the Holmesglen community play at VAFA clubs and both organisations share a strong connection with our communities. The Institute is committed to strengthening that connection over the next few years.
Electrical Trades Union
In the last 12 months, over 700 people have been trained at Futuretech, our campus at the ETU's North Melbourne location. This long term partnership will fuel Victoria's electrical trade.
Healthscope
Holmesglen and premium private healthcare provider Healthscope have enjoyed a strong relationship since 2012, when Holmesglen entered into a formal agreement to become one of Healthscope’s preferred providers of undergraduate nursing students in Victoria. In an Australian-first, January 2017 saw the public opening of a hospital on the site of a TAFE institute. Healthscope’s Holmesglen Private Hospital was a collaboration of world-class facilities at our Moorabbin campus, serving the community with high quality education and healthcare. The dynamic acute-care facility includes a 24-hour emergency department, several operating theatres, inpatient and day surgery beds, as well as outpatient, radiography and pathology services. The partnership provides Holmesglen students access to high-quality supported clinical placements across a range of health disciplines and settings, and provides Holmesglen students and teaching staff access to a dynamic acute-care hospital on campus.
