Studying the Diploma of Sport at Holmesglen
Your weekly timetable will feature three days of sessions and classroom-based learning, split between Holmesglen’s Moorabbin campus and St Kilda Football Club facilities at RSEA Park, plus one day of simulated activities, running school clinics and volunteering at game day and community events.
Guest speakers from St Kilda FC will cover key topics such as training and recovery, injury management, coaching and training athletes, sports psychology, events planning and organisation, events management, leading and managing people and sport and event operations.
- You’ll have a chance to get involved in sports coaching and sports activities at RSEA Park and other St Kilda FC facilities; community sport events; School Sport Victoria events; and assist physical education and sport education staff at local primary schools.
- You’ll gain hands-on experience at RSEA Park and other St Kilda FC facilities on Men’s and Women’s St Kilda game days.
- You'll have the opportunity to complete practical placement at the St Kilda FC or other Sports organisations where you will gain practical hands-on experience in administrative or supporting roles.
- You’ll take part in a community Gala day event and run sports events and sports coaching sessions for local primary schools.
The Diploma of Sport teaches you how to manage meetings and projects, plan and implement high performance training, run coaching and recovery programs and support athletes to adopt principles of sport psychology.
Then through the Diploma of Event Management, you'll have the opportunity to attend major events such as the Australian Grand Prix, A League Soccer, AFL and National Basketball League, visit the Victorian Institute of Sport and gain hands-on experience volunteering at a major event.
To prepare you for a career as a sport coach, administrator, sports club or event manager, you’ll organise swimming and athletic carnivals, and plan, organise and coach various sports activities.
Practical placement is a key component for these qualifications. It is a structured program designed to give all students a true ‘hands on’ experience prior to entering the industry. Practical placement is designed to bridge the gap between study and employment.
This program has compulsory activities/materials as part of the learning experience. The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to your enrolment. You will also be required to provide a Working with Children Check.
