The Bachelor of Sports Media has been designed to nurture students that aspire to work in the sports media industry. The course has four streams: sport, media, journalism, and communications. Students will be equipped to work in a variety of roles with sports leagues and clubs, sports media organisations, media organisations and sports agencies.
The course offers significant applied learning opportunities where students function as consultants to sporting organisations developing the skills required by industry. There is significant industry engagement: guest speakers, field trips and a 228 hour internship with one of our industry partners such as Fox Footy, Herald Sun, Melbourne Stars, SEN1116, AFL Victoria, Basketball Victoria and Cricket Victoria.
This degree facilitates real world opportunities for students, ensuring they learn more and do more and are prepared for an exciting sports media career.
The experienced academic staff have extensive industry experience in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, broadcasting, business and sponsorship. The facilities used for the course include access to a television studio, radio booth and video equipment.

All new students commencing in a higher education course must attend their faculty course orientation and Holmesglen's higher education orientation.
Sports journalism, digital sport, media production, public relations, social media, sport sponsorship, sports broadcasting, sports marketing.
In the third year of the degree students are required to undertake a 228 hour (six-week full-time equivalent) internship which provides experience that assists with a seamless transition into the workforce upon fulfilling the course requirements.
We have some of Australia’s leading media and sports organisations as internship hosts including but not limited to the Herald Sun, Fox Footy, SEN1116, Melbourne Stars, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Basketball Victoria.
The course is designed around four main strands of media, journalism, communications and sport.
The course consists of 23 core subjects: 22 six-credit point subjects and one 12-credit point subject.
Assessment comprises essays, briefs, written reports, feature stories, news bulletins, market analyses, case studies and oral presentations. You are required to attend tests as scheduled by Holmesglen.

Good passes at Year 12/Matriculation or the overseas equivalent or relevant senior
English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 (Academic) with no individual bandscore
less than 6.0.
Prior to placement, students are required to provide a current Victoria Police Records Check.

QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION
After completing this course, you will receive the Bachelor of Sports Media.
The Bachelor of Sports Media degree can be used to apply for entry to relevant Masters or other post-graduate qualifications.

Under the Higher Education Support Act 2003, Holmesglen Institute must meet tuition assurance requirements for persons, other than overseas students, who are enrolled in the higher education courses we offer in the event we cease to provide a course of study in which a student is enrolled. Overseas students refer to the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2002.
