Studying the Diploma of Remedial Massage at Holmesglen
In the course, you will learn how to deliver a remedial massage treatment that seeks out the source of a client's pain and discomfort.
You will use a variety of remedial massage skills based on a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and specific musculoskeletal assessment and techniques.
You will have the opportunity to strengthen and further develop your skills by completing practical experience within our supervised student Wellness Clinic located on the Glen Waverley campus.
The clients in the clinic are drawn from Holmesglen students, staff and members of the general public. You may also have the opportunity to work with elite level sporting clubs.
This program has compulsory activities/materials as part of the learning experience. The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to your enrolment.
The course structure is four days a week, for six to eight hours per day with the classes being both practical and theoretical in nature. It includes 200 hours of simulated placement clinic hours.
To receive this qualification you must complete 21 units, which comprise of 16 core units and 5 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications. If applicants have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this course.

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
Good passes at Year 11 level or the overseas equivalent plus relevant work experience
English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (Academic) with no individual bandscore less than 5.5.
Holmesglen requires applicants to be able to commit to 200 hours of clinical practicum hours for the course.
Holmesglen requires students to be at least 17 years old at the time of course commencement, and must be turning 18 years old by the time they begin the clinical practicum hours. Students should also have the physical capacity to be able to successfully work within the field where they may be required to assist with remedial massage equipment, while making sure they are in compliance with all Manual Handling WHS legislation.
Applicants should also have
- a desire to further progress your massage therapy career
- a desire and interest in the natural/complementary therapies
- a mature attitude and approach to study.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, applicants will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment.
The LLN BKSB result required for numeracy and English, Exit Level 3, Working Level 4.

Recognition of prior learning
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Qualification and recognition
On completion, you will attain the HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage. This enables you to work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). For students looking to exit at this level, they are able to register as a Remedial Massage practitioner, and may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.
