Study the Certificate II in Salon Assistant and gain the hands-on skills you need in this pre-apprenticeship program for the beauty and service industry.
You will learn client booking systems, salon services, shampoo and basin services, blow drying hair, treatment beds, hair applications, occupational health & safety and other related salon services.
At Holmesglen, we focus on making sure you have a strong customer-service approach when consulting with clients, so you're ready to walk into a job at your future salon.
This program has compulsory activities/materials as part of the learning experience. The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to your enrolment.
This is a Free TAFE course
Students who are eligible for Victorian Government subsidised training may not have to pay course tuition fees when they enrol in a Free TAFE course.

Studying full time - six months
Students attend Holmesglen two days per week, for six hours per day with the days being both practical and theoretical in nature.
Studying part time - 12 months
Students attend Holmesglen two days per week, for three hours per night with the nights being both practical and theoretical in nature.
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

There are no prerequisite studies for entry into this course.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview.
These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION
Students who complete the course will graduate with the SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant.
Graduates can continue their studies in the SHB30115 Certificate III in Beauty Services or the SHB40115 Certificate IV in Beauty Services.
They can then pathway into the SHB50115 Diploma of Beauty Therapy.
